Lemmy is an echo chamber but I’ll say if for those rare republicans in the back:

If a prominent democrat has skeletons like this in their closet, they deserve the same scrutiny / disrepute as any republican.

    Party means nothing

Exactly. The alcoholic cheater who sometimes hits his wife is a fun guy to them, a good Christian who’s trying his best. But a trans woman who spends Friday night driving around to pick up food for food not bombs needs to repent and live as Jesus said.

I’m not pretending Christianity is amazing, I’m an apostate for a reason, but I’ll say this: I’m still a better Christian than a large portion of Christians I know despite the apostacy and the paganism.

Well, being trans means you believe god made a mistake when creating your body! An opinion held by many Christians wearing corrective eyeware.

That’s fair. One formative experience i had was seeing my childhood church have many parishioners reject our priest. He was pretty radical for a catholic priest having gone on record asking his bishop to perform two separate lesbian weddings (his sister and neice), when I came out of the closet he offered to talk to my ex father about how there’s a commandment about loving family but none about gender, and he routinely called for his parishioners to think and actually strive to be better people. They did not like that. They also really didn’t like when he kept telling the teenagers that he’d rather we think about our beliefs and convert away than to just stay catholic because we were raised that way.

On one hand I’ve seen catholics reject the poor on a lot of topics, really basically all of them. But yeah the American Civil religion seems to be developing a strong cult of Trump. What concerns me is the bishops joining that cult.

It’s also weird because I’m so used to American fascists being super fucking protestant, and these ones kinda still are, they’re just like the bastard children of Calvinism and Franco era Spanish catholicism.

This isn’t even something people are recently aware of. There’s this old gospel song from the 1920s that Tom Jones does an amazing cover of, called Run On. I keep thinking about these lyrics every time one of these scandals comes up. Of course, the people in the song will supposedly get their comeuppance, but it’s a gospel song, so that’s to be expected:

Some people go to church just to signify
Or try to make a date with the neighbor’s wife
But brother, let me tell you sure as you’re born
You better leave that woman alone

One of these days, you mark my words
You’ll think your brother is gone to work
You sneak up and knock on his door
Look out, brother, you’ll knock no more

(I’m an atheist, but it’s Tom Fucking Jones.)

Forgot the name and creator of the theory but it’s basically in/out-group theory. Originally thought up to explain youth criminality in particular.

On another note, if you are interested run a check-list on the criteria that lead to mass criminality as in genocide and the like for Russia/China and the USA in particular. It’s appalling how close they are in that regard. If we ever get a 3rd world war the war crimes will be uncountable

I have never taken any moral criticism from the right seriously. They are corrupt immoral hypocritical assholes.

That said, I will call out any democrat doing unethical shit because I don’t give a shit about party or celebrities. If you are a piece of shit, I don’t care about the letter next to your name.

And if you have an R next to your name, I give zero shits about any of your opinions you morally bankrupt piece of crap.

      Fucking Don Bacon.

Air force general and the small handful of times I met him he was a stand up guy. Tipped well, his staff seemed to like him, the guys I work with that worked with him all seemed to like him. Genuinely no complaints about this guy before he ran for office.

Then he ran for office and like, immediately, started taking money from telecoms to kill net neutrality. And it cost shockingly little to buy his vote. He went on a tour of his district to talk about it, in the middle of the week, during work hours, exclusively in the rural areas of his district.

My friends, his district is the largest and third largest city in Nebraska, and a few outlying neighborhoods to gerrymander it. You have to really try to avoid the city when you do shit like that.

He slips a little further every year, he wasn’t sucking the party dick that hard his first term, but he can’t take it out of his mouth at this point.

The Nationalist Christian logic … if I did bad things and God didn’t punish me, then I was allowed by God to do these things and get away with it.

These are the reasons why I don’t like Nationalist Christians and I don’t believe in God … any God that would allow this stupidity is in a universe I don’t want to take part in. I would rather burn in hell rather than join some fanciful heaven filled with psychopaths, sociopaths and narcissists.

Also I always liked the short form of calling them “Nat-Cs” … Nationalist Christians

Musk actually got two of the three mothers of his children to pretend it was all good and a big misunderstanding on their part.

His ex-wife still thinks he’s an asshole though.

What is the criteria for “credibly accused”? Accused is easy enough. One simply must make an accusation against you. But what criteria is used to elevate that credible?

witnesses, accusations, court trials, investigations by law, settlements and outright admission.

Some of them have more of one type than the other but most of the people mentioned in this political context are not unlucky people who only have one or two incidents.

That does not mean the other people are saints. But most seem to at least not glorify in it, and many are content to exploit and rob the working class without such public incidents.

Not that I care about or even like these guys, but just playing devils advocate (mostly because very few people here do) but witnesses, accusations, court trials, and investigations by law is just due process. Also, with an outright admission, we’ve gone past the point of a mere accusation (credible or otherwise). I suppose a settlement is the only one I would attach to credible. Most people aren’t going to pay up unless they’re guilty.
