this entire administration is irredeemable scum.

Article is a good read about Miller.

The choice of USS Doris Miller marked the first time an aircraft carrier would honor an enlisted sailor, and the first aircraft carrier to be named for an African American. Asked about his decision to name the carrier after Miller, Modly told CNN that it was recommended to him by a group of retired Black admirals, and that he believes “one of our most powerful warships should bear the name of a sailor like Miller to bring greater attention to what makes our Navy so unique — and great.”

This would tactically would be Ill-advised , it would face threats abroad and domestic. Anyone working with the vessel would automatically have a moral debuff, thus increasing likelihood of poor maintenance and slower resupply. In addition, it would become a political target of other nations more frequently, delaying refueling and resupply abroad.

The other comments have other very good reasons not to do this but from a cold logical tactical standpoint it is also ill-advised.

It’s seems like a weird fetish Americans have. Most places wouldn’t be any more likely to say “Thank you for your service” to a pizza delivery person then former armed service personnel. It’s like, you had a job, you chose to do it, and now you’re doing something else. What’s the big deal?

I used to rock a flat top haircut, when living in the mid-south people regularly offered to buy me a beer to thank me for my service. They were often put off if I told them I never served. I switched to asking they write their representatives to improve the VA if they really wanted to thank vets.

Honestly, it’s a job that comes with an implicit “you are worth less than our objectives and your life will be risked if we deem it.” No OSHA, no safety regulations (well, militaries have their own regulations…) Get in the barely tested hardware and determine if it’ll protect you from a bomb. Also, if you disagree, we’ll put you in jail or jack up your life.

That said, countries need armies. Where would Ukraine be if they decided to disarm for security agreements that were then quickly violated? And what if that foe was actually competent?

But, like, post-Vietnam, Americans should’ve realized they weren’t the good guys. It’s a shame new people keep getting born and don’t realize the whole history of their country…

They should have adequate shelter and food and water like everyone else but should be shunned by society just like all US military members and vets. Like prison isn’t enough for these psychos but I don’t believe in capital punishment.

While simultaneously he shits on that one boat with an unreasonable duration at sea, he steals the glory of an actual solier, and still finds a way to stroke his own ego while he’s at it. Not to mention the cost at tax payers expense of whatever bureaucratic ripples this sends out.

He’s going to die. They’re going to uncover truly horrific things of unprecedented scope, and then to save face they’re going to paint him as some sort of mastermind. I’m going to have to grow old and die myself as they contort Turnip’s career as some sort of Machiavellian genius, when in fact he has all the nuances of a screeching adolescentwith a negative kill ratio on counter strike. They will build the myth to preserve the institution, but I’ll never forget how brazen and clumsy he was or how complicit are the people warming themselves on the flaming wreckage he leaves in his wake.

I’ve long now made the point that although I knew fascism would come with a flag in one hand and a bible in the other, and in our lifetimes, I never dreamed it would be so fucking stupid.

I imagined more calculating and rational evil leaders. After seeing this, now I am starting to wonder if like hitler and stalin were also a lot dumber than I give them credit for.

Stalin got his start in the bolshevik party as a fundraiser. He robbed banks. Not with a stick up, not with safe cracking. He would roll up with a team, throw some grenades into the building, run in as the dust settled, grab the cash, then throw grenades around dthr Street the cover the getaway.

Stalin was a crazy dumbass willing to kill dozens of innocents for money.

Hitler was an Incel. His college roommate told the world about how he obsessed over a young woman for months, said they were fated to be together, but never got the courage to speak to her.

He carried a horsehip everywhere and hit people that passed him off.

He made people call him “Herr wulf” (Mr wolf) as a badass nickname. This is why his bunker in Berlin was called the wolf’s lair.

        They were absolutely fucking stupid.

I don’t know about the wolf part, but the term Herr was/is super common when referring to somebody male. Not only does it mean Mr or sir, its part of German etiquette to use that term. Like how Japanese add San to a persons name to show respect. Hitler would not need to insist people call him Herr, its just how he would be referred to.

My understanding is Herr is an honorific, totally normal. Herr wulf is the equivalent of a 22 year old me saying “Call me Mr Blade.”

That’s how people interpret it now, after the fact, but it is much more likely he was referencing his own first name which is based on old German name Athalwolf.

As well as influence of Wolfgang being a very popular German name. (I had some german friends choose Wolfgang as their nicknmame, instead of their boring anglicised names).

We are trying to look at Herr Wolf through English terms, and I’m not sure it is totally accurate. As Athalwolf carries the meaning of nobility, and less about wolves.

Please don’t take this as me defending Hitler, he was a fragile ego man, who did horrible things and wanted to be omnipotent.

I am just skeptical when later analysis might try to fit a certain narrative.

The young woman Hitler stallked didn’t know he existed. She found out about the crush decades later. He thought she was secretly communicating her love for him via qanon esqe codes like the color of her scarf or where she stopped to eat a pastry.
