I don’t feel too strongly about this either way. But I can’t help but imagine the confused looks of all the reddit armchair lawyers I’ve seen speaking very confidently in favour of the unions on this over the last day or two

Is that true? Can they sue other companies/agencies for not providing services, like those responsible for manning the shipping docks?
Yeah it’s their right, and it’s the right of the unions to strike and for other unions to join in solidarity.

That’s the point though the postal workers are not striking they are denying service to a particular customer

Sure but the company can still be found not hiring their contract and fined accordingly. If unions continously repeat this eventually the company would go bankrupt as no one would want to work with that company.

The companies who operate the docks aren’t refusing to provide services, so it would’ve make sense chosing them. The two unions organising people who work at the ports have chosen not to unload Tesla cars, as a sympathy strike. Which is their right according to Swedish law.

From what I understand there is no law saying they have to but there is a law allowing other unions to strike against them if they choose not to.
The question here is that this is a public service offered by government and I think courts are right in stating that Postnord (a government owned company) must find a way to fulfill its obligations or be fined which in practice is a fine to government and its people.
And everyone wanted to downvote me when I said exactly what would happen. Yes, it’s temporary but it will either be indefinitely temporary or they’ll make a permanent change so Tesla can get their plates.

I am supporting the sustainable transportations of EVs, somehting that the extreme left seems not to care any longer about (better to use old polluting diesel cars because EVs are for the rich. now this is the narrative)
One way to look at this decision:
- Tesla gets its plates without having to sign a CBA.
The Swedish Transport Agency has seven days to comply and provide license plates to Tesla, or they will face a fine of 1 million kroner (C$128K/US$93K).
This should be theft.
How is it theft? They are being withheld by the government agency that’s issuing them.
The postal company the government agency has a contract with has a strike against tesla running.
This injunction looks like it’s forcing the government agency to break that contract. Rather than invalidating the strike.
No, they’re being withheld by the postal agency not the agency for vehicle registration. It’s plainly theft to take possession of an item and not provide it to the owner when requested.
Okay. It doesn’t change a lot of terms of the law as it’s a sympathy strike and they are within their rights to block a company.
There are plenty of examples of every from garbage disposal to mail being part of blockades.
Clearly not within their rights as the court has ordered them to deliver the plates while they figure out the resolution.
The decision is for the agency to make them available for pickup, not delivery. PostNord are still the only ones allowed to deliver the plates. The agency has said they are looking into how they can do this after the decision, but it will be interesting to see what happens when it gets to a higher court.
Then Tesla should be within their rights to find another agency to deliver the plates. But people in here are arguing that Tesla must abide by the same contract that is being ignored by the union.

Pretty fair. At the end, these union guys are holding items that other people already paid for hostage indefinitely in order to get their way. And when Tesla asked if they can give them back so that Tesla can go out of their way to make the deliveries themselves, these union chaps said “no”. If a person does that its called theft and they get to pay a hefty fine or worse. Don’t see why these union guys are above and superior to the common man to the point they can steal items others paid for indefintely and get away with it while also preventing the rightfull owners of claiming said items.

It’s in the unions right to deny service. The real issue is whether or not a government can refuse, and in this case the current injunction says the Swedish Government cannot.

Incorrect. You are conflating the transportation authority with the plate manufacturer.
The plate manufacturer only gives it to Postnord, because the transport authority has told them so.
The injuction orders the transport authority to allow the plate manufacturer to give the plates to Tesla.

Again, you can’t just take goods people paid for away indefinitely and keep them hostage until everyone bends the knee and does what you want. That is theft. The problem here is that the union does not allow Tesla or the customers themselves to come over and take the plates, which are their property. Being in a labour union or Swedish does not magically give you the right to steal from others.
