Shocking amount of paint flaws and compound residue in a $500k Ferrari, including compound on the INSIDE of the car…
No one tell him about shoddy built quality of F40s.
I’ll never forget Chris Harris’ line on this, when doing his dual test of the F40 and F50.
The F40 looks like a kit car in comparison
This is a 22 minute advertisement masquerading as a video about a Ferrari paint job.
I’ve learned so much technique from Larry (and others, but Larry is high on the list) over the years about detailing to the point where I can easily open a business. Yeah, he’s selling products, but he’s also displaying master-level technique in a way that can be easily digested and put to use.
And he always gives mad props to his mentors like KB and such, which i think is very cool!
Larry’s entire channel is marketing for his business, which is selling detailing products. Its like Tim Apple making a video about checking his email with his iPhone.
Find me a detailer that has time to YouTube while working on Ferraris and I’ll find you a business selling something somewhere every time.
It’s not exactly breaking news that AMMO is a business selling product.
This shouldn’t be remotely surprising to anyone who’s familiar with Ferrari. This has been a thing for basically every Ferrari ever made. It’s part of the charm — here’s this ludicrously expensive work of art that performed at a level few cars can match that was hand-built over hundreds of hours of artisans at the top of their game and… wait, is that part of a cigarette butt in the paint?
Is paint something auto manufacturers usually subcontract out? Or do they do it in house?
I toured the factory when the F50 was just coming out and they were bragging that they had their first mechanized automatic process with a machine that ground the cams. They still had a guy hand check them. Paint had a guy with a magnifier inspecting it. Maybe they didn’t do that when the tour wasn’t going through, maybe they did, but they were super anal about everything. There was a pile of rejected leather with blemishes, too. The F50 motor in the dyno cell sounded amazing.
You don’t buy this kind of car for its build quality.
How did this post become about the a joke the owner said and not the ridiculous paint issues?
If I could afford a Ferrari, I would get a Lexus LC500.
Nice to see that a Ferrari has the same quality paint as my Subaru.
I really don’t see a problem with this. Carmakers, even the exotic ones, typically don’t have services designed for concours level paint and cleaning prep. They could, but you better believe they would pass this cost down to the consumer.
They likely don’t do this because it makes little sense to. The logistics process would undo much of what they would do at the factory.
It makes more sense to farm out the final detail work to the dealer, or customer using his own service at the other end of the vehicle logistic chain.
I dont think its reasonable to expect concours level paint, but a lot of the issues here are things that should have been cleared at the factory. The dealer should take care of love marks and any other imperfections that happens during shipping, they should not have to wet sand the car because the factory forgot a whole damned panel.
There should also not be compound residue on a car this expensive, and especially not on the interior of the car, that is absolutely unacceptable.
As long as they aren’t ruining a 288 GTO, who cares?
I think the ones tapped into the car world on a daily basis are aware of Ferrari’s QC or lack thereof but I think this is the first time this has been shown to a wider scale of audiences right?
I’m sure Ferrari is gonna go after AMMO for some type of defamation even though the guy in video made sure how to talk of the paint issues.
I recently had the privilege to meet Larry and do a video on this exact car! Super nice guy and that’s one hell of a fun car to drive. Here’s the link if anyone’s interested: https://youtu.be/TdaDURSOy0w?si=EPpBlAoYGO_IoNzE
While sad for such an expensive car and Ferrari being among the worst offenders, almost every manufacturer is guilty. This is why it takes a week or more once any imported car is taken off a container ship. They go right into prep right at the port, which includes fixing the paint.
You’d think the highest end brands would ship differently but it’s the same as how your average 40-50k import shows up.
What are these intermediate “prep” businesses called at the port?
I dislike a lot of things about my dad’s Harleys but I’ll give them credit, their paint is pretty damn good. Wonder how much it’d cost to get a similar level of quality/consistency on a car’s paint job, probably helps that there’s only one or two painted parts on a lot of harleys
Those cost 500k?
~$440k fully optioned
Starts at $322k
