I have one argument (as a dealer) that I will throw in there. If I see a 90k mile car that’s been serviced by the same dealer it’s entire life, I am likely to throw an extra 1000+ on it in appraisal than I would a car with no service history. At my store we typically throw an extra 2000-2500 in discounts and/or higher appraisal value (edit: to a customer who does all their service at my store). I am a forward thinker, and am all about the legacy of the customer, more so than a 1 off transaction that left a bad taste in their mouth.

It’s something to consider, but a warranty isn’t needed until it is. How much is it in relation to your purchase price? What are the terms? Where can it be used? Those are the an important factors.

You aren’t buying the product you’re buying the warranty the product is supposed to provide.

Get some gum off and rub it over the scrapped area to get any residual paint removed. Once it’s removed clean it thoroughly and then you can see how bad the paint damage is.

There should be plenty of paint less dent repair professionals out there that can fix that dent to where it is at the very least unnoticeable to the naked eye, maybe even 100%. Once you get the dent removed and clean off the transferred paint you can see how bad that actually is and whether or not you need to repaint it.

I drive on average 400 miles a week, if I’m not traveling for work, 1200 a week if I do.

It can be fully replaced, But is cost prohibitive to do so. Get a dash cover. FWIW, Id expect around 12 hours in labor time and a few hundred dollars for the dash

I would be on the body shop and insurance adjusters ass until I figured out what was going on.

Mirror on eBay is like 80 bucks on eBay, it’s 1 trim panel needed to be removed and 3 bolts. Color part should pop off and swap over…

I’d go to your local dealer, see if their scratch and dent guy can address the scratches so they are less noticeable.

Painting the whole door shouldn’t be more than 500ish dollars.

So either way, I wouldn’t think you can fix it through insurance

Depends on what the warranty includes. If it’s a wrap warranty that extends your comprehensive warranty to the length of the powertrain, or maybe even longer I would higher consider it. Mechanically speaking your Toyota should be solid. But electronics can be finicky, especially infotainment centers. Another thing to consider is the cost. IMO it shouldn’t cost much more than 10% of the purchase price of the vehicle.

You have to activate CarPlay on the touch screen. I don’t Remember the exact way to do but it was super simple. They probably cleared the data and turned it off during a factory reset.

The electronic/comprehensive warranty wrap at my store cost up to like 2000 to get depending on the car, extending the comprehensive warranty to the length of the powertrain warranty, which our deal is double powertrain warranty, so 10 years 120k miles.

The electronics don’t break often, other than the entune touch screen between 14??? And 17, if I am not mistaken, but I have had to replace the head units on Toyotas before, always seeming to be 2 weeks out of the warranty and our wholesale cost ranged between 1300-4000. The most expensive headlight I’ve had to replace I got USED and it was $900 on a prius prime.

Most warranties and service contracts offered by dealers are fluff, for sure, but the warranty wraps that extend the comprehensive warranty to the length of the power train warranty are really worth looking into.

That is the one warranty I recommend to everyone of my closest friends to at least consider. It typically isn’t very expensive but it’s worth it’s cost in other advantages.

And you also need to consider the cost of the warranty to the cost of the vehicle. If it’s 10% or less the purchase price of the car I am buying, again… I really think it’s worth considering.

How much is their wrap warranty and how long do you intend to keep the car?

It reminds me of that tv show from the 80s or 90s where they are on sub in the 2000s. They got a lot wrong in what tech would look like todays, but one thing they seemingly got right is in one episode a guy passes a police camera speeding on a motorcycle and immediately gets charged, fined and debited for his infraction.

Damn $199 at my store gets you a synthetic oil change and engine/cabin air filter.

Yea. I generally just use whatever dealership I work at at the time, but there are techs at all of them I wouldn’t let touch my car with a 10ft pole.
