I like summer because I can wear something skimpy, it’s light out, and it’s just generally the season people tend to be out doing stuff and having fun. I also love spring.
Winter is the worst. It’s too cold, too dark, generally miserable, and everyone just wants to sleep it away. Autumn is fine though

Hard disagree. In summer plants are doing a lot of cool things as are the insects and all that activity invites many interactions with larger animals also. Whereas in the winter almost everything closes shop and goes dormant which makes invasive ne’er-do-wells like Youngia japonica and Lamium amplexicaule more prominent.
In summer most plants I have are struggling due to lack of water. Far more interesting things going on in spring and autumn.
I live in a rather xeric sandhills environment with blazing sun and this year has had more drought than typical, so indeed a good number of my less well adapted or more poorly positioned plants have been crisping up. Even so, summer is a season of fruiting and growth for many. Ex. partridge pea barely germinates at the end of spring. It was July-early August for it to blossom gloriously, mid-August for the cloudless sulphur caterpillars to appear en masses to devour those blooms and leaves, and at present the caterpillars are undergoing metamorphosis while the partridge pea bereft of blooms now pushes out the eponymous pea pods. Beautyberries have only just now turned their delightful purple color, the black-eyed susans grew in the spring but did not flower until the summer. I can’t take a step anywhere without the grasshoppers fleeing and despite the dry conditions there are tree frogs taking shelter in the shadows of my house’s siding and toads singing, anoles basking in the force of the sun.
Interestingly one of the plants that looks happier is rhubarb. At least the one I planted a few months ago is. I think its size and deep roots help it store more water and get it from deeper soil. So it manages pretty well with watering once a week.
Tree kale also seems to be OK with the lack of water. But it has been eaten by wildlife instead. I had given up on it but after seeing some of them still alive despite not being watered in over a month and the leaves all being eaten way constantly, I decided to try and see if it can be helped. Got netting for it recently and it does look like it is starting to recover and grow some leaves. Probably give it a bit longer and if it does well I might make a more sturdy frame for the netting with a few canes.
Egyptian walking onions might be able to manage but I only got them recently so they haven’t really been tested in my area. Pretty sure they would be fine for a week though. Prefer to have things I don’t need to water in the week as well as on the weekend.

I like summers as in - long warm sunny days where I can hangout in a t shirt and shorts and do fun outdoor activities for a few months.
I don’t like summers as in - If I step outside I’m soaked in sweat immediately and run the air conditioning nonstop to still be kind of warm inside. Where the only enjoyable time was 2 weeks of spring like weather and 2 weeks of fall like weather between brutal winters and summers (I’m exaggerating a little).
For some areas of the country, Spring and Fall is where the real treasure of climate rests.

Yep! They’re go out and do stuff seasons. They’re also slutty seasons for those who celebrate. Do you know how hard it is to be slutty in January‽ I’ve managed it, but it ain’t easy. But it’s also shit like going for hikes, biking, long nights talking to strangers at bars, and all sorts of other fun stuff.
I do love fall too, but it’s a different kind of fun and it has the sadness that winter is coming soon.

I think it depends on where you live. I have visited places where summer is the best season. I live where summer is the worst season.
I strongly agree. I like the variety of the four seasons where I live, including winter, but summer has become my favorite. It’s when I get to work with growing things outside, there’s lots of festivals, people are more willing to go out and do things. But I wouldn’t feel the same way if I lived in Phoenix, Arizona for instance.
I’ve lived in half a dozen cities on multiple continents and have never lived somewhere where summer was the worst season. Even living in a place where winter temps meant overnight lows of 5 and highs of 15, summer was still much better. I’ve even spent time in tropical locations where the seasons are “rainy” and “not rainy”, so it was basically summer all the time, and I liked that a lot better than even a mild winter.
I’ve had the exact opposite experience. Summer has been the worst experience no matter where I have visited or lived. Heat is fucking miserable to exist in, humid or dry. Give me snow and overcast days over the summer sun.

ya summer in new orleans is some of the most humid in north america Ive heard because of its high water plane there and , well, all the water around new orleans too lol. Thats probably why they have so many hurricanes.
NBut I actually dont care how humid or unhumid it is. I just like it being hot. I dont care if I move to the Amazon or Congoloses rainforests or Sahara Desert when I get older but Ill be glad that Im done with winters here forever lol.

Where I live, winter means:
- Freezing cold weather.
- Snow/slush/ice/sleet/freezing rain.
- Bad road conditions.
- Cloudy skies.
- No sunshine for days or weeks at a time.
- Cold/flu season.
- Gets dark outside at/before 5pm.
I hate all those things. I love summer because it’s the opposite.
I grew up in the north, I live in the South now, and I relish every hot, sweaty, extra long summer. The severe depression that winter would cause becomes a motivator to bake like an oven later in life.
I grew up in the north, and never adapted after moving to the south. I would bicycle every day and still look like someone poured a bucket of water on me just being outside for 20 minutes walking. It has taught me to value the feeling of being a little too cold.
This winter I was in the north again, and was reasonably comfortable in -20C, but not nearly as comfortable as the indigenous people who can walk around without gloves and still use a phone without any issue.
You adapt to some extent, but I think everyone is built different at a metabolic level, something to do with the way blood circulates in your capillaries or something.
Also, you basically can’t go outside. Sure, you can go from a heated building to a heated vehicle then into a different heated building. Or, when it isn’t too cold you can do certain sports outside. But, even going for a walk means putting on a huge number of layers, and then trudging through snow which slows you down, trips you up, and gives you very little traction.
Not to mention that never being able to open a window means no nature sounds for months on end. The cold and snow means no sight of living nature (other than pine trees) for months.
It’s also extremely difficult and dangerous to bike (at least here) so you either need to own a car, spend a lot on taxis / lyft, or spend nearly as long as it would take to walk and take public transit.
If I lived somewhere where winter lasted 1-2 months I might enjoy it. But, where I live it’s 5+ months, and I fucking hate it.

It was too dangerous and uncomfortable to just go out and about during the winter cause you could freeze to death, slip on ice and get injured, since visibility is decreased you are more vulnerable to other humans wjo wanted to steal from you or do you in AND animals too, you could starve to death since there was fewer plants to pick from and fewer animals to hunt. People in neolithic eras didnt really hibernate completrly like bears but rsther entered a state of ‘tupor’ where they did FAAAR less during the winter months until it cleared up in late spring. ‘Why put yourself at risk and be uncomfortable too?’ is probably what theyre thinking.
We cant do a siimilar thing today? Im not saying nobody goes to work during those months but it I feel we would be happier overall if it is accepted that people go to work and go to outings faaar less during the winter months. Im pretty sure in some superarctic parts of Alaska and Siberia that this is already done. I havent read of it being done there but Id find it hard to believe they dont already…

thata why you should always attempt to eat a MASSIVE bulking meal before goong out in the winter , or even whenever its cold too to be honest. ALl those extra calories get burned as you move around and keep you warm. You and the people youre going with need to find some way to get some warmness inside you.

Summer holiday: its probably to hot for school. Winter holiday: its probably too snowy to get to school safely. Easter holiday: go pretend to care about religion instead of school. Autumn holiday: go help your family get ready for winter instead of school.

Ok summers are bad now but man there was something special about walking outside on a sunny day with some of your friends and no plans. Even as an adult, no plans and good weather is a recipe for a good time.

I can put 15 layers on in winter and still be cold. My toes and face are the worst. If I try to protect my nose, I get snot everywhere and it’s gross. If I don’t, I feel like my face will freeze off my body. Too hot sucks as well. No winning for me except for spring maybe.
Yeah, cold all the time, barely see the sun because I’m at work the entire time it’s out. Can’t do much of anything outside, roads are frequently shit, can’t get together as much with my friends because none of our homes are big enough, think about offing myself constantly because of the above factors, winter blows.

Yeah I’ve asked my mom, it was cold here in the winter in the soviet era too. And I believe a lot of people had these things called “jobs”, except they were even less voluntary than they are now, so being at work for the entirety of the sunny daytime period of 10 AM to 3 PM hasn’t exactly been invented with capitalism.
The one thing capitalism has changed is it gathered everyone into the cities because there’s a lot less support of small countryside schools and such. So instead of walking 5 KM to bus stop to take the bus to school, kids can now take a city bus that stops closer to their home and comes every 30 minutes at most.
There’s a bunch of problems you could solve by abolishing capitalism, but weather ain’t one of them.

Now, thanks to capitalism, we’re dealing with heatwaves beyond predictions and snowstorms that out freeze historic data, so I wouldn’t say that capitalism isn’t impacting the weather. Also, before it, people had the ability to take breaks from work, which doesn’t really exist today.
My hands feel like they’re being crushed by boulders, and face feels like needle face x1000 in the cold. The peak of summer may be miserable but I can still function without extreme pain. And before anybody mentions better gloves or a face covering, it doesn’t help. I’ve tried every magical glove in existence. And heated ones make me sweat after 5-10 minutes and I’m arguably in a worse position, same with full face coverings. FUCK WINTER.
I hate winter. Switching all my winter wardrobe to wool has made it at least less sweaty under all the layers. Seems like every winter thing is made of some synthetic fiber that acts like wearing a plastic bag when you sweat. Wool is the way.
Wool is the only (that I am aware of,) fabric that will keep you warm after it’s wet. Cotton is the worst, it sticks to your skin when wet.
If you are caught outside, stranded, they say to make sure to take layers off, because if you sweat, you die.
I don’t mind being hot but I hate humidity. It’s 7am and the temperature is 67 with a “feels like” temperature of 77. And there is no breeze. There is never any breeze here. I fucking hate it

I grew up (and still live) in a part of Canada where it regularly gets below -40°C in the winter, and… no. I 100% will say stuff like “I can’t take off any more clothes.”
Winter is fine, I can always add another layer. Summer sucks now, it didn’t get this hot nearly as often in the past, and I mostly hate summer now.
