  • I have experience with Europe and Australia and like real Chinese companies like BYD, Great Wall, LDV and Haval fly pretty much completely under the radar here. People like myself notice them, but the general public really doesn’t care. They might not buy them, but they also don’t notice them or have negative feelings towards them when you see them in the street.

Chinese brands that position themselves as being from elsewhere like MG most people don’t even associate with China, even if you point it out you’ll often get a “huh, I didn’t know that”.

Call your mate and discuss. Ask him what he was thinking would be fair, be able to justify it by explaining in detail the time and money you put in.

Treat it as if you’re providing him with an invoice. For example “I traveled $x worth” and “I spent X amount of time then and then” etc. Don’t be emotional about it. You provided a service, this is what you spent to provide that service and go from there.

  • For me it’s the Audi 5.2 TFSI. The engine from the R8, Huracan and several other models.

It’s in many ways very similar to BMW’s S85, an engine almost all of us love. Both 90° DOHC V10s with the same firing order, almost the same displacement.

But the main difference is that the Audi engine is strong, reliable and plentiful, yet lighter.

Designed when VAG was still under leadership of Ferdinand Piech and designed to last, proven by the fact that basically the same engine is still sold new today, 15 years after it first came out and holding tremendous power in the aftermarket.

I hope to own one of those engines one day. I’ll find something to put it in and enjoy it later.
