I see there are various levels of 911, and the Emira currently has two engines being retailed.
Is the 911 a level above the Emira? In terms of driving feel, comfort, power and any other metric worth comparing them.
Although theirs price is same level. But when you are driving a 911in the street,It definitely looks great. There is a great man who understand car. Driving 911,you will have more funny than that, although 911not as fast as lotus.
Yes the 911 is a level above the Emira. The Emira competes with the Cayman.
I’ve seen this cayman statement in a few places. A mid engine layout is superior to a rear engine layout. Porsche nerfs the Cayman by making it strut front and then limiting the engine output so it doesn’t compete with the 911.
I’m fairly certain the Lotus is double wishbone, mid engine and has hydraulic steering.
How exactly is the 911 a level above? Besides in Porsche Tax and 0-60?
The Emira really isn’t even on the level of Cayman.
My question was meant to spark a discussion? Can you answer it or are you just going to make random statements? Have you driven both cars back to back?
I haven’t driven the Emira, but I’ve driven other lotuses and can confidently say they’re totally different. There’s no way lotus will make a car more plush than a 911, though they’re both super sporty.
The Lotus will almost certainly have half the interior sound deadening. If you like that sorta thing then the lotus might be for you. Personally, I like the lotus
Lotus literally makes a SUV
Have they sold them yet?
Seem to be more of their SUVs available than the Emira.

Probably two levels above
The emira is more raw for track style ride . The 911 is more refined probably more comfortable as a daily driver and will have better reliability due to their volume production. I would personally have More fun in an emira but financially the 911 is more reliable and probably better resale values
I don’t think they are really competitors at all, the Emira is supposed to be this enthusiast-focused, purebred sports car.
The very point of the 911 is that it supposedly makes the right compromises to be a supreme daily driver. I think I once heard the the hardest setting on most 911s is equivalent to the softest setting on an Emira.
last sentence sold it for me
The Evora from lotus “competes” with the 911 (non-gt)
The Emira competes with the Cayman GT4
For a second, I thought you misspelled Evija, haha!
This is an interesting question. I think it is easy to define levels in terms of spec sheet, such as price, HP, space (ex 2+2 va 2 seater) with setting arbitrary divisions however you like. Prestige/exclusivity is one that I think is somewhat subjective but there likely is more consensus - ferrari/lambo a tier above Porsche for example. However the most important “level” is the hardest to quantify and very subjective, and that is desirability. For myself, although currently not in the demographic that these cars pertain to, given equal cost I would much much rather take a v6 emira over a 911; hell, I would pay a premium over the Porsche for the lotus. For me based on my preconceived notions (having driven neither) the emira is a step above.
I think the idea of “levels” is hard to say because it is somewhat heuristic and also biased by your priorities and preferences. For example, is a gt3 a level above a 911 turbo s? Is the dakar a level above the 911r?
I’m the end, they sound like different enough vehicles that when cross shopped, people will chose one or the other. I don’t suspect it will be a “start with a 911 then upgrade to an emira”
cachet, build quality? probably
other metrics it’s harder to say where the emira might even shine more
I would say any lotus is above any Porsche. Porsche is literally a budget sports car. Lotus is an entry to exotic cars
Whose fucking budget are you making that conclusion with?
I think you need to go drive a Porsche sports car and correct your understanding of their offering. Even a base Boxster is not “a budget sports car” once you’re behind the wheel and above 5000 rpm.
Most people agree the Emira and Cayman are pretty close, with the Cayman having better behaviors on public roads, and the Emira feeling a touch more raw.
Good thing I owned one then so I know what I’m talking about. Porsche is a sporty VW that asks for exotic car money.
They ask exotic car money? I thought you just told us they’re budget oriented cars lol
Agree that Lotus is an entry to exotic cars. Disagree that Porsche is a budget sports car. Porsches as a range cost more than Lotus, and reach higher performance spec than Lotus. Lotus is more akin to the experience of a McLaren or Ferrari, just down on power. Porsche is akin to… Porsche, since they also make exotics.
Daily driver: 911 wins. Weekend/track day car? Lotu>many 911 trims but certainly not all. Personal preference the end but if it was just for recreational use I think the Emira would be more fun and cheaper than many 911s.
So I’ve driven the Emira on a few different occasions, and I’ve driven every flavor of Cayman plus 991 911s.
The 911 is a step above Emira. That should be no surprise looking at the price tags, the 911 can reach $300k for certain editions.
Emira is a Cayman competitor, but that doesn’t tell the full story either. The Emira is more powerful and visceral than your base Caymans, and probably sits in the space between a Cayman GTS 4.0 and GT4.
The 911 will be more comfortable, more luxurious, and more reliable.
The Emira will be more emotional, and feel more bespoke / exotic. More feedback through the steering and more mechanical bolt-action shifts.
The 911 feels like it was fused together from a single piece of steel. The Emira feels like it was hand assembled, which it largely was.
Very different flavors. I love the 911, but chose Emira.
I would say yes, but it’s also not a direct competitor. It’s kind of like an M2 vs M3. Yeah, the M3 is faster, more comfortable, better materials, but it’s a different type of car as well.
I’ve been in a 911 as a passenger, I can say they are very solid feeling, comfortable, super nailed-down and planted and insanely fast, even the base Carrera does 0-60 in the threes. The interior quality etc is all very nice, it feels expensive and has no rattles. They are so competent that they come across a bit boring almost, pretty typical for a German car.
I don’t have any experience with the Emira, but it’s probably going to be much more engaging to drive, the V6 certainly sounds good from what I’ve seen. It’s just quite heavy for a Lotus. I think you’ll have more fun with it then a 911 though.
Another option well worth considering is an Alpine A110. Still mid-engined, but ~350KG lighter than the other cars.
