I’ve seen it at the Tesla Supercharger on the west side of Houston on Westheimer Road. Even though there are probably a dozen stations the line still backs up.
I’ve said it a dozen times, really reconsider buying an EV if you can’t charge overnight or can’t charge at work.
The Street is a business looking for clicks. Add Tesla to any headline and it’s guaranteed traction no matter how stupid.
It’s not necessary but it is nice to have.
An ICE vehicle burns fuel to operate so the longer it operates the more fuel it’s burned. Even though an EV starts with a deeper environmental deficit than an ICE, that situation improves the longer it operates because it’s not burning gasoline. That equation improves even further if that EV is charged using renewables like solar.
Many EVs have roof racks as an option, some come standard, and some have third-party options.
I concur. The charging curve from 80% to 100% is so much slower that it’s rarely worth the wait. Obviously there are times where it’s necessary if the lack of charging infrastructure down the road requires it but, in most cases, charge to 80% and move along.
That’s simply not universally true and is more a reflection of opinion rather than fact.
I’m not surprised. The lifecycle environmental impact of an ICE vehicle is terrible and, with the most vehicles on the road, Toyota is now a major polluter.
I’ve struggled with this as well and I’ve seen plenty of people also comment, as some here already have, something to the effect of, “You’ve probably bought X from people that think or do horrible things and you just don’t know about it so what’s the big deal?” That’s very likely true but that’s not a logical justification for ignoring the bad actions you do know about just because you don’t know, or can’t possibly know, everything about everyone you buy from.
You make the changes you can knowing you have imperfect information.
I can tell you that the quietest EV I’ve driven is also the one with the worst efficiency, Audi etron, and that’s probably for a reason. It is incredibly solid.
Lower end ICE vehicles tend to be the most efficient in terms of MPG, and though there are more lower end vehicles on the road, the cost-benefit to consumers of transitioning from their efficient ICE vehicle to an EV is significantly less whereas the higher end market of SUVs, trucks, and high-performance luxury vehicles are great candidates for the significantly cleaner EV.
I looked at a Solterra not too long ago when I was car shopping. I just don’t understand the Subaru design language. All that black plastic cladding around the wheels — yuck.
Looks small and compact rather than flat like that from an EV or elongated from getting stuffed into the drivetrain of an ICE frame. Probably from a hybrid.
Not anymore because I trust my routine.
Their cars are designed with low drag coefficients although Tesla was recently sued for allegedly overstating their range by 26%. The obsession with range continues.
