Doug demuro rips into this a bit on last week’s TST podcast. The first Hummer EV on cars and bids last year went for over 200K. The most recent went for 100k.

Same story for every EV. Even for Porsche Taycans. I don`t care about Hummers but these huge value deprecations will make masses think twice before making a decision to switch to EV.

You mean selling something for $100,000 over its MSRP which is also over its production cost was never going to last?

I can’t believe it, what a total shock!

Incorrect title, probably anti EV spam.

Article says resellers can’t make money flipping them anymore.

" The Hummer EV was reselling for $100k over sticker price for most of 2022

Aftermarket sellers are now struggling to find buyers over MSRP

The last 5 Hummer EV auctions on Bring A Trailer have not met reserve price"

Considering the vast majority of people don’t read most articles, OP knew what they were doing.

PS also: man, OP needs to either speed up or slow down from their history…I’m just not sure which

Not really. A lot of people are buying good EVs just not the hummer. EV sales are now 9% of all new cars and sales have been going up each quarter this year, not down. It’s expected over 1 million will be sold in the US in 2023 going higher in 2024 as GM has several new models coming out.

Plus the upcoming transition to NACS will make charging easier and will likely cause a large increase of EV sales in 2025-2026.

It was a low volume practice run. It was never made to sell in high volumes. Build the first gen of that new aluminum monocoque chassis, motors, inverters, battery, get it out there to see how it handles the real world. Then they can focus on building a 400,000 truck a year production line.

Taking a risk on their golden goose trucks had to wait so that the fools buying the hummer can deal with the teething issues.

And the spec changes show with the new truck. 30% more range is a huge leap.

They could demand more margin for it by making it silly fun with things like the removable top, crab walk, etc. boutique chicken first to make high volume models more cost effective later

This is why I love Reddit and broader social media! Tesla puts in something about resale to prevent scalpers and all of the internet has a conniption about how you don’t own the car if that’s the case and how it’s an idiotic policy by Elon.

Now because it’s gm who did absolutely nothing about scalpers (not to mention dealer mark ups) it’s fuck scalpers. Gotta love Elon Derangement Syndrome.

It’s not logically inconsistent to think scalpers are the scum of society but still not like having restrictions on what you can do with your own property.

You can also like the antiscalping provision while still thinking Elon Musk is racist narcissistic nazi.

Anti scalping is not on the list of why I dislike Elon. The end of your comment is though. People who make it their mission to defend Elon are so weird. He’d call you a pedo in a heartbeat if he bothered you notice you exist. Let him defend himself.

IMO, people who make it their mission to defend him and people who make it their mission to hate on everything Tesla just because he’s CEO are both weird. Both types of people seem to have an obsession with Elon.

      all of the internet

You can’t get all of the internet to agree even that breathing oxygen is a good idea, and you claim that somehow everybody agreed on a contentious issue like this? I remember when it was announced, there was a heated discussion here in r/electricvehicles , with several people for and against.

The general American public really needs to learn macros. You can start by using the investor . Com app and following lithium carbonate prices. I’m tired of seeing EV deflation posts when lithium is down 71% in a year . That’s what the fuck is supposed to happen

I disagree with many of these posts. the scalpers are not the problem. Scalpers are only effective if idiots pay it. There is very little in life that you have to have right now. Its the people that paid those prices that are the problem, you see now that they aren’t paying it the scalpers are crying. they should of ben crying all along. The persons that paid them are the issue! if people refuse to pay over MSRP there wouldnt be over MSRP prices. But as long as someone feels they have to have something before others the scalpers will take advantage. Some would have to explain to me why anyone would pay over MSRP for a vehicle. your already upside down at sale, now your upside down plus all the money. I would never pay over MSRP for anything. IF its that rare and limited, then apparently may people can live without it and so can I.

Shhh…you’re making sense. People don’t like that ya know. Everyone hates scalpers but they’re ok with Nike raising prices 10$ every year for the same sneaker with WORSE quality. The market is set by the buyers. It’s not like “scalpers” just say “I want 450 dollars for the 50 dollar item”. You’re correct about buyers being the “problem” the same way the consumer is the problem for not putting their foot down and continuing to buy the same worse sneakers for a higher price every year.
