You should probably compare the EV9 to and F150 lightning or Rivian R1S/T and not a model Y. Also Tesla over estimates what range is in their vehicles. But to your point yes a Tesla is very efficient due to their shape in comparison to the less aerodynamic vehicles that are SUVs/trucks.

Forget retooling costs, the big 3 are paying billions a year in CAFE fines for not meeting fuel economy regulations set by the federal govt. Ford is “only” at 1 Billion why chrysler is at 3 bil and GM is estimated over 5 bil. Thats each year! Ford CEO has outright stated he would rather spend on infrastructure to build and sell EVs than to keep paying Billion dollar fines (that go in the pocket of tesla and rivian as subsidies). So really what they spend on “retooling” they save in fines. I dont know if chrysler and GM have made formal statements about CAFE fines and EV plans but there is give and take to help automakers transition and Im certain GMs $5 billion dollar fine for a year would cover a lot if not all the retooling costs.

Because people are stupid and cant think for themselves and so they feel better parroting what they hear elsewhere and social media has made fake news a believable thing for people who are either dumb or want to believe that news despite a clear mental capacity to see past it. These are all obviously propaganda posts and convincing people otherwise can often be an exercise in futility.

Usually my line is to deflect ask what kind of phone they have and then tell them when they replace that battery with a fossil fuel burning engine so they dont have to charge off of coal power or exploit 3rd world labor or have a higher carbon footprint then we can resume this conversation. My other line is to ask how much they pay to fill their gas tank (I live in big truck country, the answer is almost never under $100) then I tell them what I pay to charge (at home not DCFC rates!) and that usually ends the conversation with them scratching their heads.

Just dont get frustrated bc thats probably what they want. If you told someone with a diesel truck their vehicle was bad for the environment what would they do? No - thats not entirely how gas is priced. Bic city to small town and state to state it varies so much based on cost but also what people will pay. The barrel price matters but the oil companies want to maintain their income regardless of supply or demand. If usage goes down prices will increase. Im guessing by a lot as there are fewer and fewer ICEs on the road. One more example look at your cable company - cable TV + internet + phone used to be all bundled together at a given price. Now as there are more streaming services the cable companies charge twice as much for internet alone. They want a certain amount from every household and find a way to sell that to you. Gas/oil are different bc of the cost/barrel but you hopefully get my drift.

Well guess what, if you buy a new ICE vehicle replacement of engine and drive train is also $12,000, $18,000, $24-$30,000 depending on make model and engine. Newer engines have become more complex and more expensive. No one says - I dont want to buy this vehicle because replacing the engine and transmission costs X or Y and unless you are buying a used vehicle with very high mileage on it no one thinks about the cost of replacing the engine and transmission on a $8,000 jeep (I just traded in a 10 year old jeep w transmission problems and the cost of the transmission was more than the value of the vehicle, in the same range of what you are concerned about for battery replacement costs).

In short - this is an absolute logical fallacy and irrelevant discussion for purchase of new or used vehicles. Move along and ignore the nonsense.

Let me know when you engineer a more environmentally friendly way of getting a family and gear up a mountain every weekend and if its more green then I will adopt. Until then this is better than replacing my near dead ice with a gas guzzling ice. Call it what you want but this is the best solution out right now so to me this is the green choice

Let people DC fast charge to what they need, its not your business to tell them what to charge to. Idle fees are just that - Idle. Plan to wait at busy charge stations at least 15 minutes. Dont plan to show up and plug in and go at a busy station unless its off hours

I will believe the news when I see it. For now thats pie in the sky. I bought my EV w a plan to keep it for 10 years and have no fears of changes. The range, charge rate and driving tech are great for me. Would you not buy a phone or computer bc of whats coming out in 2027?

It actually is green regardless of what you do with it and Im tired of this small brained argument. It still has zero emissions and uses less energy than the ICE SUV it replaced. Its a similar size as the prior vehicle and we needed to use a trailer to haul our gear before and we got 10 mpg with a trailer going up a snowy mountain road. Zero emissions is still zero emissions. I can understand the point that using public transit or the smallest vehicle possible is the most green but in the US w almost zero public transit and gear and a family to haul your options are a very not green large ICE or a green EV. Stop the EV hate for trucks and SUVs these are the vehicles that will convert the masses.

Environmental reasons were primary reason I bought EV. I own a lightning and there is zero chance I would buy an ICE truck. I would argue it doesnt matter why EV owners buy, even if they charge off a primarily coal powered grid right now. Bottom line is without EVs and eliminating emissions and the possibility to charge off solar (even if its in the future) we wouldnt have any opportunity for environmental impact. Even if EV owners buy for incectives or performance its a step toward emissions reduction and some separation from fossil fuels. So if people recycle because they get $5 back they are still recycling
