For months now I’ve been torn between buying a Model Y and buying one of Hyundai’s Ioniq models. Today I pulled the trigger and bought my first EV, an Ioniq 6 SEL. Overall I just felt like I was getting more car for the same price. I’m absolutely blown away at how much Hyundai has turned their brand around compared to 5 years ago. The 5 year 60k mile bumper to bumper and the 10/100k battery with two years free charging and 3 years free maintenance is what ultimately sold me. But dang if those Tesla seats aren’t the most comfortable things in the world.

Just gotta hope all the hyundai/kia issues don’t translate to their EVs. They’ve shown before that they don’t honor their warranty

Is there good YT channel that makes “reasonably fair and unbiased” comparisons between current comparable EVs and Tesla? Specifically Model 3

Been casually trying to find good comparisons that help me feel informed about pros/cons of the more popular options, but don’t feel like I have found what I need to feel confident understanding the market outside of teslas market, and indeade as a direct competitor with the important specs, usability, features, utility, or even very clearly understanding the detractors to each platform.

Anyone have some channels they like that will make direct comparisons to the Tesla options, as they do feel like the benchmark in many important details.

      Good question.

So as a dad storage space is big for me. The Y has a ton of storage. Tesla obviously is also known for being big in the autopilot market and the cars have a lot of fun features like the dog mode thing and changing the horn, etc.

Then on the other side Tesla only had 6 months of free supercharging, the warranty wasn’t as good, and lately a lot of people I know who own Teslas are complaining about quality control issues. Tesla also seems to be moving toward a subscription based process for a lot of the extra features on their cars and I’m tired of having everything be subscription based these days.

Those are some of the things, hope that helps

I guess it depends on the country but in Europe the Model Y is much cheaper than the Ioniq and comes with way more features as standard.

Make sure you check it has had all of the 12v issues fixed. A guy at work has one and it’s been in the shop 8 times with 12v issues 🙈

Reading this post title gave me chills. What a horrible mistake. I came from a Tesla Model 3, and went to an Ioniq 6. It’s a constant mistake, a deep seated regret, every time I get in this car and it forgets everything I set. Beeps when I go to reverse out of my driveway (BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP), always sets the tone for an angry drive. Can’t be disabled, like all its faulty “safety” “features”. Let off the brake in reverse and the car starts shooting backwards without pressing the accelerator. Go to Drive and it does the same damn thing despite having set i-Pedal mode 500 f*ckng times, now time to hit it for the 501st. (Guess who does this all right? Tesla)

That’s just the start of every drive. God have mercy on you if you want a usable navigation interface. No hope is here if you want to find PoIs on a map, or plan a route using a map-based interface; it’s all text with no way to view points on the map or along your route. (Guess who does this all right? Tesla)

Get out of the car and … now you have to consciously stand there and hold your thumb on the pad, like a fingerprint scanner in a James Bond film or something. Not a simple button (e.g. Nissan Leaf) or a capacitive button with immediate reaction (Polestar 2), but have to HOLD it there. For a full second. Or it won’t register. But you won’t know for a full second anyway due to the latency. So you have to concentrate on that whole moment for a full second… Enough time to remember how much you hate this fcking car. Oh. And if you walk away without locking, the door handles will stay popped out. (Would you imagine Tesla did this right too? Walk away lock!)

I’m so deeply upset with my Ioniq6, I’m about to take a several thousand dollar bath just to find a way to get rid of it and back into a cheaper, more sane, more modern Model 3 again. I regret every day I sold the Model 3.

It might be too late, and especially if you came from ANY gas car, the Ioniq 6 is an incremental upgrade… But between that and a Tesla? Lord…

All cars, ICE or EV should do this.

A backup noise is required by law on EVs in the US. If you’re in the US then your prior Tesla was just manufactured before that law took effect. I’m sure all new Teslas make a backup noise.

I love the look of the Ioniq 6 but wanted a higher seat height. Was going to pull the trigger on a Ioniq 5 but ended up going Tesla Model Y due to its higher advertised range plus $4k off msrp at the time. Car came out about $6500 cheaper than the comparable, biggest battery pack AWD Ioniq 5.

If I did it over again I would definitely go with an Ioniq 5. Not that the Tesla is bad or anything, just think Teslas lack that attention to detail you get in a car built by a brand that’s been in business for decades.

One is an SUV and the other is a Sedan. Didn’t seem like form factor was much of a decision in that process

Congrats. Also fancied a Tesla for a while, but got myself a BYD Seal few weeks ago.
