  • Reading this post title gave me chills. What a horrible mistake. I came from a Tesla Model 3, and went to an Ioniq 6. It’s a constant mistake, a deep seated regret, every time I get in this car and it forgets everything I set. Beeps when I go to reverse out of my driveway (BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP), always sets the tone for an angry drive. Can’t be disabled, like all its faulty “safety” “features”. Let off the brake in reverse and the car starts shooting backwards without pressing the accelerator. Go to Drive and it does the same damn thing despite having set i-Pedal mode 500 f*ckng times, now time to hit it for the 501st. (Guess who does this all right? Tesla)

That’s just the start of every drive. God have mercy on you if you want a usable navigation interface. No hope is here if you want to find PoIs on a map, or plan a route using a map-based interface; it’s all text with no way to view points on the map or along your route. (Guess who does this all right? Tesla)

Get out of the car and … now you have to consciously stand there and hold your thumb on the pad, like a fingerprint scanner in a James Bond film or something. Not a simple button (e.g. Nissan Leaf) or a capacitive button with immediate reaction (Polestar 2), but have to HOLD it there. For a full second. Or it won’t register. But you won’t know for a full second anyway due to the latency. So you have to concentrate on that whole moment for a full second… Enough time to remember how much you hate this fcking car. Oh. And if you walk away without locking, the door handles will stay popped out. (Would you imagine Tesla did this right too? Walk away lock!)

I’m so deeply upset with my Ioniq6, I’m about to take a several thousand dollar bath just to find a way to get rid of it and back into a cheaper, more sane, more modern Model 3 again. I regret every day I sold the Model 3.

It might be too late, and especially if you came from ANY gas car, the Ioniq 6 is an incremental upgrade… But between that and a Tesla? Lord…

  • My tipping point was … over 11 years ago now. I legit thought people were more aware of the industrial-scale horror that was enabled with every gas pump fill-up. Haven’t pumped gas in 11 years now… and it’s absolutely shocking that people still feel normal buying gas. Like, can we please stop funding dictators and corrupt companies? Any day now, people ought to snap out of it… any day now…

I sure hope it’s soon. It’s been generation after generation of increasingly-better EV offerings, yet we still continue to have the same, tired, “nuh-uhh!” discussions in any mainstream thread involving EVs. Next year, 300-mile range now 500-mile range (what next, 700?). Solid state batteries, charging in 5 minutes, next people won’t go electric until it’s truly self-driving. Or will they? Who knows. Find out next year when the goalposts move again!

It’s like addict behavior… people know gas is bad, but are just too afraid to let it go. Dunno why I’m so weird, I flung away from gas as soon as I had a chance.

  • mAh means nothing even in phones… it doesn’t tell you how long it could run, nor now many times it could charge a given device. It’s a d*ck-measuring contest between arbitrary numbers, that’s like the GHz race but for batteries.

God, I very deeply wish we could get the industry to stop using mAh as a measure printed anywhere but the lowest, trivial details of a spec sheet - which is all it really is. Watt-hours (Wh) are the real measurement, where you can understand and compare real, functional data.
