I know they’re probably joking, but the Steam forums are so generally unhinged that I wouldn’t be surprised if this person is serious.

Piracy had amazing quality of life back in the day: no-cd cracks, keygens, fully patched, custom installers, no splash screen. Maybe even extras.

No one makes demos for their games anymore. I’m not gambling on whether I’m gonna like a game with the cost of AAA titles these days. Piracy is amazingly handy for that.

I’ve been calling my pirated stuff “Extended Demos”/“Extended Trailers” for ages now.

That is the number 1 reason for me too. Although steam solves this problem partially with their return policy. But I don’t want to pay the price upfront everytime, so I resolve to piracy until I know if I want to buy the game.

I’d almost agree. Steam is great with it’s return policy, but only really by comparison. The 14 days is definitely plenty of time, but 2h is not a lot for quite a few, and especially the expensive, games.

it’s a bit of a shit situation because i can’t really come up with a way to decide how long the free return window should be on a per-game basis, surely if you make it depend on the game’s standard playtime they’ll just make the main quest 30 minutes long and make all the actual content side quests

I agree but I have recently bought 2 games that offered steam demos: Xenonauts 2 and Astro Colony.

I’ve done this with games I’ve purchased physical discs for but are a pain to install on Windows 10. I was able to find a pirate site that had lightly modified games to help work on modern systems.

“Piracy is not a service problem and can only be curbed by utilising SecuRom and denuvo drm. This also will make the game less compatible in the future so that people will also buy your remasters.”

Something along those lines it was?

I agree that you shouldn’t go pirating small indie titles because independent artists becoming more financially successful is the object of the exercise. But a triple-A title is free game to me.

The only games I’ve ever pirated are the ones that have denuvo DRM ironically, lol.

Games are cheap to buy if they are good and worthwhile.

It’s when the studios try and bait and switch us that I have a problem, or purposefully slow down and punish paying customers because they are disabled by the fear of a few pirates by adding worthless DRM.

I am certain there is not a single Denuvo game that the DRM actually caused them to make more money than simply launching without it…

People in the industry are being taken for a ride…

Also the ease of use, automatic game updates, and supporting game development.

DRM makes me not want to support the game development.

Sometimes id rather use a cracked version of a game even if i own it, just so i dont have to deal with ubisoft’s, and EA’s horrible launchers. Unless the game gets actively updated or has multiplayer.

One day these shitty developers will learn people are happy to pay if it’s convenient.

Most developers have figured it out, seems like just a few executives who don’t understand video games.

Slowly these people are retiring and the world is becoming a better place.

If I love a game enough, I am eager to support the devs. I also know that buying an AAA game doesn’t support the devs, it supports people like Bobby Kotick and Randy Pitchford.

So when it comes to AAA games, either I pirate the game, or…

… in more recent years, I don’t pirate the game.
