    Become ungovernable.

Also, the lethal injection is no less cruel or painful than other forms of execution.

She tortured, mutilated, and murdered a 19 yo. I don’t believe in the death penalty, but she has absolutely not served her sentence. This should be life without parole, something her lawyers argued for.

Hey, it doesn’t matter what you believe, the sentence handed down was lethal injection, not life without parole, and she completed that sentence, twice.

by your logic why don’t we just ditch the legal system and throw everyone accused by the state into a hole forever?

If you don’t like it, petition the government to change the rules by engaging in the democratic process as is your right

The law is nothing if not semantics. Technically the sentence handed down was death, not lethal injection. If the sentence was lethal injection then they couldnt have given her a second one in the first place. Lethal injection is just the last remaining legal means to hand down the sentence in most states

If shes alive, then shes obviously not dead. So she hasn’t completed the terms of the sentence.

That said, they definitely shouldn’t be killing her in the first place

Okay that killing sounds brutal as fuck, but also she was a mentally ill kid. Capital punishment is wrong, but not every case is a hill I’ll die on, you know?

But there is not even a semblance of justice here.

At 18, she brutally murdered a classmate and coreobated reports had her bragging about the murder before and after it occurred. That is not a mental health episode. That is real evil.

Just because you have trauma, you don’t get a free pass to murder/mutilate your classmates.

Not executing her isn’t a “pass”. She has been in prison 30 of her 50 years. I’m not even saying her debt is paid. I’m just saying she absolutely should not be executed.

No one said “free pass to murder.” Whether you agree that her family and society failed her or not, the idea that governments get to kill people is insanely dangerous.

        And what is “coreobated?”

Still on the fence about the death penalty, it’s a coin flip to me if it’s worse to spend your life in prison or take a quicker way out. She probably was failed to some degree, but that still isn’t an excuse for murder. Life in prison at a minimum.

No one deserves life in our current prison system.

I agree that there are people that need to be separated from society at least temporarily. We just need a better system before I’ll condemn anyone to it.

Recording of her actual conversations after the fact point to the opposite if bragging. She was also sexually abused by multiple family members for her entire childhood and then thrown in a horribly abusive “troubled teen” camp where she underwent more abuse. Also her boyfriend threw her under the bus to avoid his own equal complicity in the murder. You have no clue what you are talking about and people like you disgust me.

The boyfriend also should have gotten life/death.

At what point is someone damaged enough to commit murder and get away with it or graced with a lighter sentence?

A lighter sentence than death? Okay she committed murder as a child and has spent her entire adult life in prison, showed remorse, got mental health support and is even a mentor for other prisoners. Why does she deserve death?

First, 18 years old is not a child. Life in prison would work too. Someone capable and motivated enough to carry out murder shouldn’t be intermingling with the general populous. I think there are crimes out there that are unforgivable if done intentionally.

18 is a child, especially for someone who was deprived of any innocence due to being sexually assaulted from birth. The human brain doesn’t complete development until mid 20s, this is a scientific fact. Just because someone is legally old enough to be treated as an adult in the Draconian legal system that is famous for abusing and wrongfully incriminating people, doesn’t mean that people are fully developed by 18. The legal system used to allow for slavery and marriage of adults to children. If all you are going off of is the letter of the law, you are revealing yourself to be more evil than the person you seem happy to condemn to death

An 18 year old that can legally give consent is by all legal standards, an adult, and fully expected to abide by the law.

Also, never mentioned sex/consent at all. Why you gotta get weird with it? An adult women that murders someone is just as much a murderer than an adult man that murders someone.

I honestly believe if it’s gotten to the point that you’re willing to commit a murderous act, the death penalty would have never been a deterrant. Make murderers pay for their crimes through a lifetime of slave labor authorized by the 13th amendment.

I’m … not touching your second point, but on the first: it’s even worse than that. “In for a penny, in for a pound”.

Why would anyone who committed a murder surrender if they know they’re going to die anyway? Especially when dying in a shootout looks better than “botched execution”. How many of these crimes are already committed by someone that only cares about themselves and hates the people around them? What’s their incentive to stop?

The death penalty seems to me like a great way to turn a murder into something worse.
