No one said “free pass to murder.” Whether you agree that her family and society failed her or not, the idea that governments get to kill people is insanely dangerous.
Still on the fence about the death penalty, it’s a coin flip to me if it’s worse to spend your life in prison or take a quicker way out. She probably was failed to some degree, but that still isn’t an excuse for murder. Life in prison at a minimum.
No one deserves life in our current prison system.
I agree that there are people that need to be separated from society at least temporarily. We just need a better system before I’ll condemn anyone to it.
Our system is broken beyond belief for sure, but murder is something that puts you away for a long long time regardless what country you get convicted in, and rightfully so.
