Isn’t Buc-ees the company that’s suing small businesses over cartoon logos they’ve had since before Buc-ees existed?
I’ll never step foot in one.
Yeah, and they’ve gotten themselves into a beef with Beavercreek OH over it.
Personally, I’m glad they won’t be coming to my state
I remember when Buc-ees came to my state and everyone went “Hell, yeah, I’ll work at a gas station for $22/hr!” Pretty soon, word got around that you’re not even supposed to sit on your breaks. The people enthusiastically screaming “Fresh brisket on the board!!” Rapidly gave way to a tone that said “I am contractually obligated to say ‘Fresh brisket on the board’ at an at least mildly elevated volume.”
Still, I’m surprised by this story. The pay made a hell of a first impression, and the sitting thing made me think some kind of weird religious kink, but overtly political messaging was not something I expected. I’m just so used to “Fuckin’ burger-flippers want $15 an hour, you b’lieve ‘at?!” that Republicans never crossed my mind.
So small businesses in blue states with beavers as part of their logo won’t have to worry about getting sued? Sounds good to me.
Is it really a bad thing that a company that decides to be political, will for political reasons cut themselves out from around 50% of the market?
I only wish more Fascists torpedoed themselves like that.
Well I guess I’m boycotting that business too except to use the restroom because let’s face it, they’re cleaner than most any other business.
Wear your politics on your sleeve and I’ll vote with my wallet.
Now, if we could only get a dozen other companies to take the same stance.
For instance, Chick-fil-A outlets, to me, only occupy space and feed junk food to my neighbors. Given the Christian nationalist stance of their upper management and support of anti-LGBT+ activism, they’re really not a good fit for California.
Or any state that respects its own public.
Don’t forget Hobby Lobby.
Fuck Hobby Lobby. We lost Jo-Anne Fabrics but still have Michael’s, and I don’t think they’re on the boycott list.
Lol, these companies are so lost.
More small businesses is great!
Bucees is actually suing a bunch of small businesses for using any logo with a beaver right now. It’s super fucked up. Fuck them.
More then just a beaver. Any animal they think looks similar.
Because we all know moose look so much like beavers…
Bucees is actually suing a bunch of small businesses for using any logo with a
beavercartoon right now.Doesn’t the Hoover Dam use a beaver in some of its older stuff? Legit would love to see how badly they’d get dragged through the mud because the Hoover Dam gift shop has some of those retro style reprints sitting around.
Also fun fact the Colorado does in fact have a beaver population.
Any logo with a cartoon animal
Canada been real quiet since those suit done
They ain’t a small business.
No one called Bucces a small business.
Buc-ee’s ain’t nothing but a tacky 30 year too late knock-off of Sheetz but with worse ownership.
“Business-friendly” doesn’t really sound like them at all after seeing that John Oliver episode on them attacking tons of other businesses over logos.
As much as I did want to visit one someday just to try a few things I dont think I will he going out of my way if the chance does arise. Also announcing your political allignment should be a death sentance for any company… nobody wants to know this info.
Business friendly just means lower corporate income tax I’m pretty sure.
Lower taxes, less regulation, less enforcement, maybe some union busting and general worker suppression.
Super shitty education system so you have a large pool of cheap labor
I hear they pay pretty good. I don’t think they have a union problem.
It’s a menu to choose from. Not a list where everything has to be true for it to apply.
But how brain washed do you have to be to call unions a problem. Unless you own the business. In which case you only have yourself to blame for making the workers angry enough to organize.
You are reading way too much much into that phrasing. My parents were both in unions and I’m pro union. Relax.
Edit: also I don’t really even like Buc-ee’s. I went once, it was a gas station… I never went again lol.
I just hear they pay well from people I’ve known who worked there.
What’s “a union problem”?
I read “union problem” as “a problem that can be fixed with a union” such as low pay. But yeah, just because your company isn’t currently choosing to exploit its workers doesn’t mean they won’t choose to later - the trick is to prevent them from having the choice in the first place.
A union doesn’t have to be an antagonistic force, exclusively beating exploitative companies into submission - it can just be the voice of the workers to speak on equal terms with an attentive employer, working together to grow the business for the benefit of everyone, instead of just those in the executive suite.
I’d say it just means socially worse for those folks, because a bad social net clearly corresponds 1:1 with corporate friendliness.
Or having the government pay for improvements that the business owners would normally have to do.
Indeed, the location in DeForest, Wisconsin is “on hold” because the village can’t afford the $17 million highway interchange for it. (No chance of the company helping fund it, nosiree, that’s communism or something.)
"Business friendly“ means friendly to “my” business. It always has. One company’s business friendly is another person’s business hostile.
And fewer worker’s rights.
Also announcing your political allignment should be a death sentance for any company… nobody wants to know this info.
There’s an app called Goods Unite Us which tells you what political parties different companies donate to, and it’s searchable.
In case you do want to know that info.
You’re not missing out. It’s a touristy gift shop for a mascot with convenience store amenities and some mid food. I really don’t understand why people love it so much
We’re talking about people who have never done something interesting in their entire lives. They never make anything, so spending money is their only source of fulfillment.
They’re NPC’s and pedophile protectors
currently they are suing a small chain, that has the beaver as a logo.
the ceo thinks blue areas need the stupid gas station chain in thier state, good riddance if they leave.
"I just need some shit I could get at 7eleven, but I really want the inconvenience of an old fashioned trip to the mall. I know… Sheetz! Or Bucees! Or Pilot! Or FlyingJ!
Hey, sheetz has good gas prices and seems to pay their employees well.
MTO is way better than fast food at about the same price point, as well
Whatever, Buc. Fuck you too.
republicans and culture dont mix, they would rather wage war on culture.
That’s not true, they have a strong Epstein culture.
Only the states that let them bully small businesses into bankruptcy.
Oh no! No giant gas station!? I’ll have to make do with my locally run book stores, restaurants, coffee shops, and farmers markets! How will I live?!
After the novelty wears off, I don’t understand the appeal of Buc-ee’s. It’s a shitty convenience store, because it’s not quick or convenient, and everything it has that other convenience stores don’t is either shitty, overpriced, or both. You want food? Food is higher quality elsewhere, and about as convenient. Clothes? Higher quality and cheaper elsewhere, and about as convenient. The only reason to go there is if you want Buc-ee’s branded souvenirs. The bathrooms are nice, I guess, but a decent convenience store like Casey’s or QuikTrip has bathrooms just as nice and you’ll be in and out much quicker.
Their bathrooms are nice, their food is good by rest stop standards, and their gas is on the cheaper side. It’s a solid choice to stop at when you’re on the road if you’re unsure about nearby options. That’s it. I don’t get the white suburbanite consumerist cult integrating a gas station into their personality. It’s like funko pop people but somehow worse
maybe appeals to truckers, because they often lean conservative, and bucc-ees predominately is in the south more?
They’re explicitly anti tractor trailer. They have signs plastered all over the entrance. They’ll accept anything else though. I’ve even seen a few campers at one.
but a decent convenience store like Casey’s or QuikTrip has bathrooms just as nice and you’ll be in and out much quicker.
Oh shit, they need to get ready to be sued. Only Buckee is allowed to have clean restrooms.
But seriously, never been there but I see comments like “but their bathrooms are nice”. What’s so special about their bathrooms? Do they have some high tech gadgets installed like the super expensive Japanese bidets or it is just being clean? And if so, why is that such a big deal?
Their gas is super cheap compared to everyone else in my area. Like - I paid 2.99 a gallon there yesterday and another place nearby was like 3.79.
I actually don’t fully understand why their gas is so cheap. I would think it was to get people in the store, but Bucees doesn’t generally have the gas prices posted on signs like everyone else.
In Florida they post the price. I think it’s the law there because of the shady gas stations near airports over charging
Wawa put in a gas station near Orlando international airport because their CEO was visiting and got pissed off by the price gouging gas stations nearby, last time I was there the Wawa was still charging reasonable prices and at least one of the other gas stations was still way overpriced (although that might be the gas station in Orlando that doesn’t want to be a gas station, they just want to be a convenience store but zoning forces them to keep gas pumps so they price the gas at obscene rates to try to keep people from buying it).
I’m thinking of the gas station near Outback stake house near the airport. They are crazy with thier prices.
I think another part of the equation is that by the time the novelty wears off, the local competition will likely be wiped out or be less formidable at very least.
It’s a good place to stop for decent gas, selections of road trip food you want and especially ample clean bathrooms. Looking slightly behind that, it’s worse than a Walmart on the inside with crowds of people shoving through each other for meh-quality fresh food.
America is such a shithole that clean bathrooms at a gas station are a selling point.
You’ll have a hard time finding dirty bathrooms in gas stations in the EU.
