You may not like the show at all, but South Park gets away with ridiculous, insulting stereotypes because there’s a story providing context. They’re often doing it to make some kind of point about American culture.

This tweet can’t claim any of that. It’s simply racist.

This is how these pigs view all black people. Maybe don’t advertise your racism when police brutality has been such a big issue for decades? That would require critical thinking, though, and we know cops are never smart.

They’re making a pun for a blood drive based on the gang The Bloods - who are a predominantly African American street gang.

I don’t see the racism. “What up blud” is a common greeting and jumping people in happens in gangs, Blood or otherwise. Is it the South Park depiction of the gang?

It seems it was taken down due to making light of gang culture - not because of racist implications.

Maybe I’m just out of touch, I just really don’t see how it’s racist. The Bloods exist and they’re mostly African American. The text of the post is just a shitty pun.

Fuck cops, but this is for a blood drive, which they’re not even really that involved with.

I’m not gonna nitpick because I agree largely. But ask this: should the police, out of any person or organization, be the one who make a joke like that? How about the police stay far away from turning their #1 victims into a punchline.

I agree with this viewpoint completely, I just don’t see how strictly speaking this is racist. If I dare ask, I get accused of being a racist. No one will explain what is exactly racist about this to me, they just say, “how isn’t it racist” or downvote me. This shit is frustrating. The top comment is calling it racist and I really just don’t understand it.

how is this not a racist caricature?

wanna take odds that no black dude was involved in the making of this?

Please point out to me what in the text that includes the picture makes this racist then. There is so little text there, I really cannot wrap my mind around how this is racist other than the depiction of a gang. I’m not arguing at all, I’m stating my observations and feelings. Can I not even be open with my potential ignorance over how this is racist, without being accused of being a racist?

You could swap that depiction of the bloods with any other group portrayed in South Park and make a similar shitty blood drive pun… would that be racist? Can someone do this so maybe I get what’s happening here?

I agree but they can do whatever they want. It’s not like they’ll be held accountable.

Yeah. The high school I worked in had 107hoovas, which is a group of Crips. Pretty sure we had Bloods too, but the hoovas were the ones defacing my desks. Also worked with some South Side Locos.

Kid walked out of my chemistry once to go jump someone in the bathroom, because they ignored gang lines when redrawing the district and put rival gangs in the same high school. He only got one day of suspension, and they threw away the write up I gave him for walking out because he also got written up for the “beating the shit out of someone in the bathroom” thing and they didn’t want to “punish him twice for the same incident”.

Edit: I just googled that kids name. He died 2 years after I knew him. Fuck. He was smart, he was capable, he just made god awful decisions.

Yes, but they are each multiple different things. It’s complicated.

Michael Hobbs does a breakdown of the modern myth of the American gang in a pod episode of You’re Wrong About… on Buzzsprout, dated 2019-08-22, if you want a deep dive of what Crips and Bloods really are about.

It goes well with the recent LWT main story on police gang lists, which are secret like the DHS no fly lists, and like NF and the even more obtuse terrorism watch lists and like the gang database, can be used to justify denying civil rights or liberty to travel to private persons.
