Teen slang? Thicc has been around online since around 2010, and IRL for even longer. That means anyone who was a teen when it became popularized is pushing 30 now.
How did you gather she’s offended from that single message? I don’t see any words suggesting that. Perhaps you’re overly defensive right now, and one might say, offended that someone sees things differently to you.
The term, originally spelled “thick,” dates back to the 90s and was used in black culture in reference to women, Dictionary.com says.
Can we stop this “black culture” bull shit too? At this point, it’s just American culture. Why are we segregatting a questionably sexist term now?
Stop categorizing every little thing as “black” or “white”. An American started the term for a specific purpose, and Americans still use it today with a broader application.
Fucking right? I grew up in schools where urban vernacular was very popular, so it’s interwoven into my casual speech. But SJW’s would have you believe I’m culturally appropriating lingo because of the color of my skin, despite the fact that it’s part of my upbringing. So much of modern anti-racism is just moar racism.
The rapid-fire memes and acknowledgment of them being memes made it cringe, IMO. If they’d just dialed it back and said something like this I think it would have been fine:
“Here’s our beautiful thicc girl, Abby! She loves to eat fish and swim with her friends. Come see her at our aquarium any time!”
exactly, i’d have gone with just posting a cute image of the otter and the text “chomnkey floofer 🙏”, but i guess they have too many old people who would just think they’re having a stroke or something.
I don’t think that the otter minds being called thicc.
Who was the apology for exactly?
Apology was for people offended by an aquarium using teen slang to connect with today’s youth.
Truly a tragedy.

If I understand it, it ain’t teen slang.
Not anymore
If only they cared that much about kids getting shot
The aquarium ?
Otters have been shooting kids
Lmao
it’s not “teen slang”, it’s AAVE
One is and one is not
Chloe is determined to be offended on someone else’s behalf today tho

Did you just assume its gender? Sexist pigdog.

Honestly, it’s not even sexist anymore. I’ve seen it used to refer to men almost as often as women.

How about “thick” and “thicc” being 2 separate terms and having different origins?
Why should they relate? I’ve only ever heard “thicc” being used on the internet.
how would you be able to tell the difference in spoken language?
You can absolutely tell the difference because “thicc” comes with gesticulations indicating the outer bounds of the x-axis of the subject’s frame
Furthermore, additional C’s and/or spaces between each letter requires the gesticulations to include the outer bounds of the Y-axis
Cause you’d say “Thick with 3 C’s”
God dammit earth
Maybe they just realized that it was extremely cringy.
