I’m not sure the driveshaft and extra differentials would really be that much cheaper than a second motor. Would also require a tunnel which would mean a smaller space for the battery.

Curios to know how much the battery swap cost. Who did it for you?
What are GM and Ford selling right now that consumers want? I can literally only think of the Mustang Mach E and it’s not terribly competitive. GM dipped their toe in the water with their platform by starting with the ridiculous Hummer and a Cadillac people like but is too expensive for most consumers to afford.
So they make a half assed attempt and blame the market? Reminds me of US automaker attempts to “newt” Toyota and Honda at small cars.
2023 year to eat Subaru has sold over 120,000 Foresters to date. That’s their third best selling model and 25% of their volume. Of course they are going to keep marketing it.
Do we really need the range if we have the charging infrastructure and efficiency? Personally, I’d prefer a significantly cheaper car that can go 300 miles on a 40 kWh battery and can be easily recharged in 10-15 minutes than something more expensive that can run 500 miles. But maybe I’m in the minority in that I live near a city and barely ever drive more than 50 miles in a day.
Don’t forget they could barely build a few thousand of the tank. Hard to sell at a meaningful volume if you can’t build the things.
