Hyundai is killing it in the design department… offering a great lineup of cars with good features at attractive pricing… but this doesn’t really relate to reliability.

I wouldn’t take it that far… it all depends on how much credence you give these rankings… I mean Mini is #3. It is all self reporting from CR’s readers. EV’s are new tech so there is learning curve, there has been buggy software updates, etc… that could play into this without actually meaning EV’s will break down on you. Also the bulk of EV data from the past 20 years is from Tesla’s… and while they have reliable drivetrains, they aren’t known for great fit/finish.

Also strange contradiction in the above and the CR statement about Electrics given that the bulk of EV’s sold are Tesla and Tesla finished mid pack at 14th… ranking above every other American car company.

Yes we are in a strange time with EV’s where limited option means that someone will commonly cross shop a Kia, Chevy, Audi and VW which doesn’t often happen with ICE cars. The advantages that luxury makes have don’t stand out as much as everyone looks at range / charging network as holding more importance than build quality, features and dealership experience. My wife wanted a Lexus EV simply because she loved the Lexus dealership/service experience with her old hybrid…. But once she realized it didn’t matter since an EV barely goes back for service we settled on a lightly used Volvo.

Wife has them and is going through the hot flash phase of life… they are a godsend.

I’m probably unique. I drive a 4Runner and my wife has a Volvo EV. I enjoy the variety of driving them both, even though objectively the Volvo is better in most ways… faster, quieter, more efficient, etc….

Yes, a drive shaft and transfer cases/gear boxes hugely complicate what can be a very simple EV platform. Also adds maintenance.

Most of these big corporations are ran by assholes… Musk is just a little more in your face about it with his constant social media presence so it’s harder for people to ignore as his image and Tesla’s are pretty intertwined. Identity/image plays big into how people spend their money so I don’t see it as odd at all.

My wife just got a lightly used 23 and loves it. These are a tremendous value when purchased lightly used. We paid $42k for one with 2,000 miles on it.
