RIP to electric cars: 79% more problems than conventional gas vehicles is a massive number. PHEVs even worse at 146%

All we hear from the electric crowd is how much more reliable they are due to less moving parts. Guess not.

I wouldn’t take it that far… it all depends on how much credence you give these rankings… I mean Mini is #3. It is all self reporting from CR’s readers. EV’s are new tech so there is learning curve, there has been buggy software updates, etc… that could play into this without actually meaning EV’s will break down on you. Also the bulk of EV data from the past 20 years is from Tesla’s… and while they have reliable drivetrains, they aren’t known for great fit/finish.

Also strange contradiction in the above and the CR statement about Electrics given that the bulk of EV’s sold are Tesla and Tesla finished mid pack at 14th… ranking above every other American car company.

RIP to the American car industry I guess.

I do think the American EVs are a MAJOR drag on the overall EV reliability right now as they’re just getting started. Tesla had a huge head start.

As far as rankings, what’s the point of collecting the data for them if people are just going to discredit the results with “well that makes no sense because that’s not how it has always been in my head.” It’s interesting how often convention wisdom is wrong. BMW has been consistently in the top 5-10 the last 5 years across multiple industry surveys and you’ll still hear people parroting the same tired lines about how much they break. They own Mini, it’s really not THAT surprising.
