Let’s wait and see till after Sevilla and Sheffield how our front 4 performs before we start to panic.

Fulham was one of our best attacking performances this season (especially the first half) and we should have been out of sight if not for some wayward touches from Trossard or if Martinelli had his finishing boots. Maybe it was also because we started a goal down.

The question is whether he is good enough in that area. His athleticism has declined, and you could even see it last season.

I know Partey is better defensively than Jorginho but would he have been enough to stop Chelsea’s transitions yesterday. I get playing Partey-Rice double pivot against City, and maybe Liverpool, but my question is for those who want to see Partey as the single pivot and Rice in the advanced position. The argument is that Rice can help us defend from the front and stop attacks before they start, but we saw yesterday that even Rice can’t be everywhere.

Yes but now they don’t come out to play against us, and we are not yet as good as City or Liverpool in attack.

Numbers don’t lie. They had 93 touches in the final 3rd and we had 171. They had more touches in the penalty area though - 24 to our 17.

We can get away with Zinchenko against the majority of teams in the league. The main issue is that we struggle to convert the dominance inverted Zinchenko gives us into actual goals (he’s not blameless here but the fault lies mostly with our attack) so we get none of the tangible rewards but most of the risk.

But we have learnt from the Chelsea game, haven’t we?

This is the same Chelsea that had 65% possession against Liverpool. I sometimes lament that our reputation has outpaced us, that teams fear us much more compared to how good our players are.

He was playing RCM yesterday. I think Arteta will persist a bit with Havertz midfielder with the hope that he can still be an outlet when he pushes up and still provide the defensive work necessary in the middle. He is becoming more confident in the team even when his last two appearances have been as a substitute against good opposition with us looking for goals. This means we’ll still need Zinchenko for buildup duties, with Ode dropping to help out.
