I know Partey is better defensively than Jorginho but would he have been enough to stop Chelsea’s transitions yesterday. I get playing Partey-Rice double pivot against City, and maybe Liverpool, but my question is for those who want to see Partey as the single pivot and Rice in the advanced position. The argument is that Rice can help us defend from the front and stop attacks before they start, but we saw yesterday that even Rice can’t be everywhere.
Parteys bad defensively now?
The question is whether he is good enough in that area. His athleticism has declined, and you could even see it last season.
Even if it has declined, Partey and Jorginho athleticism are not on the same level.
Questioning if he can still play in the pivot after last season with a more active partner in Rice seems so forced.
