  • If I needed a truck, I couldn’t imagine getting anything else. Even though I typically didn’t like Tacomas because of the 3.5 and C-channel frame, it didn’t compare to the 4Runners and GX with fully boxed frames.

My friends with Rams, Silverados, and F150 all had issues, the 2019 F150 has never towed and the transmission is going out. I got a new Frontier as a rental and it drove horribly, small inside, big outside, and already had electrical issues.

I feel like the Tacoma would be the only choice where I can feel it can go 300k miles with the original drivetrain. Just excluding the Tundra because it costs even more than the Tacoma.

  • I had a 2010 Suburban in 2016, only 6 years old and it plagued with issues, the dashboard cracked too… it’s common for them since they’re built with such cheap brittle plastics. I sold it.

In 2020 I needed to tow again, but I got a 2011 GX460… 9 years old! It was perfect, solid, no issues, I could push on the dashboard and nothing would make a sound. Sold it once I didn’t need it anymore, the new owner is still happy with it.

  • I have friends with both! But they’ve both had issues.

The Silverado had issues with the 5.3, started some tick that comes from a lifter I think? Pretty common issue, he ended up just trading it in recently for a cummins.

The F150 has a transmission problem (and it has never towed), it lost a couple gears, right out of warranty. He’s dreading the day that the transmission goes all the way out. It’s fine on the highway because it has all the overdrives, but without 2nd and 4th, it can drive weird around town.

Both of them have had electrical issues, and built quality problems.

  • Never understood the hate.

My family has been driving Subarus since 1994, almost 30 years.

Zero breakdowns, zero head gasket repairs, zero bad transmissions, zero issues. Heck I’ve been driving modified STIs for 18 years myself… also no problems.

Mine has 408whp, doesn’t even burn oil, it’s a tank. Oh yeah and I’m not meticulous with maintenance, no AOS, no break-in, just beat on it.

I also have a Toyota, and both cars have been equally as reliable.
