I know it’s not super popular with fans of the source material but I loved Watchmen (2009), specifically the director’s cut. It’s probably my favorite standalone superhero movie.
The theatrical cut left out some (what I believe to be) important scenes that expanded on character backgrounds and motives. The ultimate cut is nearly identical to the Director’s cut from what I recall, but also includes animated segments depicting 'The Legend of the Black Freighter" that appeared in the graphic novel and bloated the runtime to 3.5 hours which is just insane. So between the three versions, the director’s cut feels like it does the best job of telling the story without overstaying its welcome.
Hmm, how come I never knew about a director’s cut… I enjoyed the movie as it was, it was my first connection with this story though.
I love the original Christopher Reeve Superman. Watched that a lot as a kid.
I’ve always said DC do great animated films with long time lines but they suck at live action.
After seeing crisis on infinite earth’s part 1 the point is driven home even more.
Agreed.
“You don’t get it, son. This isn’t a mudhole: it’s an operating table. And I’m the surgeon.”

Oh god I wish that version made it to infinite earth’s
Not a Film, but the one and only season of the new Swamp Thing they did originally for the DC Universe app. Had a good cast, intriguing storylines, and a promising future. First they reduced the episode order, then they cancelled it outright after someone failed to properly secure tax cuts from the state they were filming in. It’s on hobo max, or easily 🏴☠️ed.
