Ok, the title tells it all. The GT3 & GT4 get a lot of attention, and rightly so, from Porsche fans. In current guise they are brutal track machines, yet many of us don’t track our Porsches. I however find them too flashy in standard guise, and quite honestly would prefer, say a 997.1 Turbo.

So, get in your votes and give us your thoughts on your Porsche of choice if you don’t track your car. (SUV and Panamera owners / lovers are welcome to chime in!)

My GT4 beats me up a bit on the street, and can be a chore to drive in many situations. I would absolutely not own it if it wasn’t going to be a regular track car. As for which Porsche I would get in that situation… Maybe a Cayman GTS? Or a 911 T? I’m not sure, I’d have to give that some thought. Not sure I’d even own a Porsche if not for the track… Just feels like too much car for the street to me, at least given the somewhat boring roads around here.

100% this. I inevitably sold off the GT cars because as much as I loved them on track (and I did), I didn’t really enjoy them on public roads. As a weekend car, they offered too shallow of an experience when driven far below the limits, and as a daily driver they were too tedious or impractical due to problems with ground clearance/approach angles and unwanted attention. Because I could only reliably get to the track the track for 4-5 months per year, the cars mostly sat outside of that and it seemed like a waste.

I tried a handful of non-GT Porsches (991, 997) and they were a bit better but were also much less exciting/dramatic to drive in general. Performance envelopes weren’t massively smaller while the character was much more subdued. So, maybe an air cooled model, 986, or 987 Spyder would do the trick, but I’ve never driven them and honestly I just want to try something outside of Porsche.

So, I’m prepping my 997 for sale and currently shopping for a Lotus or similar.
