4Runner and Tacoma are both known to be reliable but they are made in different countries and Tacoma has a smaller displacement engine.
From the catalytic converter, engine, transmission, to the power-train control module, which vehicles are you less likely to have it end up at the shop for random breakdown, check engine lights, and leaking fluid?
This might be good for someone who has owned both. Thanks!
I am following this thread too
4runner uses the larger and more sturdy and reliably longer lasting engine right? 4.0 vs 3.5 V6s
I think it is rather strange that people in this sub seem to be fixating on the difference between 1 failure in 1000 and 2 failures in 1000, there is no significant difference in daily use, why the obsession with “reliability” to this degree? And what is one or two sample going to give you?
We currently own a 5th gen 4Runner and a 2nd gen Tacoma. The fit & finish on the 4R is considerably better than the Taco, and I’m certain it would be more reliable over its life. That said, the Tacoma has almost 200k miles on it and doesn’t drink a drop of oil or coolant, so both easily exceed many/most other trucks sold today.
The 4Runners have better fit and finish, but the overall reliability of the two will be the same.
The 4runner has been running on the same platform for nearly 20 years. The Tacoma is about to switch over to a turbocharged 4 cylinder. The runner is most likely more reliable. The 2023 definitely is
Yes, than the current gen tacoma before this new one comes out. It’s been a solid platform for over 10 years.
Great year for 4Runner. 4.0 speaks volumes imo. Was sad when they discontinued out of the Tacoma. Last chance is here. I would definitely love a 4Runner in this year.
