I have been looking for affordable tires for nearly 2 months. Mostly for take-offs or something barely used. I found a guy on Marketplace with some “Starfire” tires. 31x10.50r15 for $275. He said they have maybe 500 miles on them and he bought them in 2021.

I headed over today and exchanged the cash and tires. I got them in the car and noticed they were dated 0207. All of them. I went back and explained they are older than what he told me. Then he said he bought them used in 2021. I said I misunderstood him then and that I wouldn’t want to purchase them because they’re so old. He said that they’re fine and they’re good tires and he was getting a bit aggressive so I just left with the tires.

I’m pretty upset and don’t know what I can even do with them at this point. I don’t feel safe with them on and doubt anyone will even mount them. Any advice?

No one in their right mind is gonna pay $275 for 15 year old starfires. So he actually could go to small claims if he has any evidence the tires were misrepresented. It’s not worth it though.

He will be laughed at. Buyers must do their due diligence when making any and all purchases. Similar to buying an as is vehicle and it blowing up on the way home. Your problem not mine

I mean I asked them how old they were and he said he purchased them in 2021. I looked before he or I left the premises and then went back and asked to not go through with it. He refused, and I guess rightfully so because I had the tires and he had the money which makes the transaction complete or whatever. I know it’s not worth it. Lesson learned

Yesssssir sad you had to learn this way but the world is a big pile of trash people. Going forward in life always BUYER BEWARE, everyone is scum so make sure you research everything. I learned the same exact lesson many years ago at age of 17 buying a set of wheels for my truck that looked mint but were bent to rat shit and woulsnt balance

I am sorry you got taken. That absolutely sucks.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter how much depth is on the treads, those tires are not safe. To your point, I wouldn’t trust a shop that would mount them. Damnit - that sucks.

That sucks. When it comes to tyres, definitely need to see pictures of the date before making an effort to view them/pick them up. I think it’s good that you were one of the few who would actually have the sense to check the date. Someone else might not have known and may have lead to a pretty bad accident some time down the line. Still it sucks.

Look at what you’re buying closer next time. Always look over every everything before handing cash over. You’re sol in this instance, so chalk it up to a lesson learned and keep it in mind for the future.

Used tires are never a good idea. They could have a slipped belt or out of round. The brand “starfire” is also sketchy. Always buy tire brands you recognize. Sorry but unless you have it in writing, you now own these tires without any recourse.

Further bad news, you can’t go drinking with them and also in some states they would be known as jail bait. On a more serious note do you have any recourse as the tyres were not road legal. In UK it would have to be specified that they would not be fit for road use. A while ago vaguely recall someone getting jailed for selling Polish agricultural tyres as suitable for road use.

Oof sorry dude. Honestly would of had better luck buying used tires at a mom/pop place and getting em 60$ per tire if you are in a pinch. Only time I’ll remotely consider buying used from a random person if I know em good enough or I plan on destroying the tires anyways.
