I guess I’m glad I’m still on my 6 Pro. Was thinking of getting an 8 Pro.
I’ve been wanting to buy a pixel phone ever since Graphene OS came out, but jesus christ google is making it really difficult for me to ever justify wasting my money on such flawed phones…
Another good reason why I haven’t bought Pixel yet. Responses like these push me away from getting a pixel.
i haven’t had any problems. mine sits on the front of a motorcycle when i commute and has been stellar. bright sun, heavy rain and even sleet one stupid time.
had a crack since day one. tripped over my dog taking it out of the box and dropped it before i’d even touched it.
its never dropped a call.
on pixel 6, since it came out.
Got sick of my galaxy and got a pixel 7 when it came out, no complaints so far. People having a fine time with their phones don’t tend to post much about them.
Unless it’s an iPhone
I’ve had two Pixels. Easily the best two phones I’ve ever had. The camera is unmatched. The fact that they don’t nickel and dime me for cloud storage is awesome as well.
My whole family uses iphones and the benefits of giving in are very real, however, I just don’t want to give up this phone.
Similar to me. Had my Pixel 3a since release, and before that I had the pixel 2. My 3a has only now started to have the issues with network availability, but it’s served me well, and easily the best phone I have ever used.
I had a Sony Xperia 5 II and I thought the camera on that was pretty good.
Then I got the P8P and the camera was so much better.
Have had google phones since the Nexus 6P, never had an issue with any of them. On an 8 pro now and it’s great!
You are using it wrong.
Are these nipples?
My Pixel would frequently show full cell signal yet not receive calls or SMS. Resetting network settings would immediately fix it, but only temporarily. There was no way to know if it was bugged without calling it. After troubleshooting with Google, they eventually had me factory reset to determine “once and for all” whether it was a hardware or software issue. It didn’t fix it, so I thought maybe they’d warranty the device given we’d established hardware failure.
Nope.
They told me to wait for the next couple software updates to see if it’s fixed. I traded the Pixel in for pennies on the dollar. I now have a Galaxy, and it is actually doing the most basic function that a cell phone is supposed to. I won’t be buying another Pixel.I think you shouldn’t have accepted the software update suggestion. This is obviously wrong on their part and IMO easily winnable
I let them know that solution was unreasonable, they said the same crap. I’m done dealing with them, instead they earned themselves an “IT guy” who will now recommend against Google products. They lost way more than one customer with that shit.
Now I know to not get that phone, ty!
I was actually torn between getting a Pixel and a Galaxy, the pro being much less expensive but lacking some features. Guess I’m getting the galaxy, I’ve been using them for a long time anyway.
So many on googlepixel sub still insist the modem has no problems at all its really funny. They keep claiming the complainers are a “vocal minority” even though barely anyone owns one in the first place
Exactly the same thing happened to me. I waited a few months and when the next couple of software updates didn’t fix the problem I got it swapped out for a refurbished pixel. Unfortunately the replacement has an awful green tinge to the display, but you can’t win everything I guess.
Lmfao

The latest betas fixes exactly thay issue.
I was reproducing the same with the “public” version.
A cellphone not working as a phone isn’t a “wait for months for beta testing” sort of problem. It’s a “send out a bulletin and hotfix” sort of problem. I was missing calls about family members having an accident and being transported to the hospital on a phone that shows full goddamn signal. Then I was treated as if this was some novel issue that they’d never heard of before, and they were “confident” that just resetting my settings would fix it forever. And if it didn’t, maybe there would be a warranty option. But suddenly, when I spent a couple hours of my time factory resetting my phone, setting all my apps back up, then confirming the issue in multiple ways - only then is it a known issue, not a warranty cause, and I just need to live with it and see if future updates fix it.
Frankly, right now even if I had the thing back and working I still wouldn’t recommend someone buy a Pixel based on the support experience. And you are right, I’m not saying you aren’t… Just saying that the latest betas fixed an issue specific to this, and apparently, it works.
How do you get the beta?
I have no idea why people keep buying pixel.
I have up on it after nexus 6p, knew then and there Google hardware is trash and they have no quality control.
My Pixel 6 has been doing that shit since day 1. I want to get a new phone, but holy fuck Galaxys have gotten so expensive. I remember when I got the S3 for $150😭.
Next couple updates? How is that a timely fix?
When you don’t have a great plan to service your hardware, it’s all you got.
Software uhn, finds a way
Usually once or twice a month I think
My pixel 6 pro on T-Mobile does the exact same thing. Causes problems I never knew existed in 2023. Needed to call my wife to ask what type of brown sugar to get and not a single text or call would go through for 5 minutes, unreal level of braindead from Google getting it fixed too. This happens all the time with work and family related stuff that causes so much chaos it’s maddening.
Wifey asked if I wanted another phone for Xmas and I told her another pixel was out of the question. Phone is wonderful otherwise, but holy shit it can’t make calls or texts to save a life, and I bet there’s more than one time someone has died when they didn’t have to die because of a Pixel phone’s inability to make contact.
Tensor is easily the worst thing to happen to the Pixel line. My Pixel would also have constant cell signal issues and their support would tell me to just wait for more updates as well. I’ve been using Google phones since the Nexus S but Tensor finally got me to switch over to iPhone. I’ll only ever give them a try again if they switch over to TMSC and stop using Samsung modems.
So the best Google phone, on the best Google operating system for so much money is garbage? I can’t believe this.
The “best” google phone has never been the best google phone. Their flagship tier has always been sub-par. Their budget tier on the other hand tends to be pretty good. The a series has traditionally offered one generation old tech and a great camera for a good price. There is no 8a, but the base 8 is already down to $550 so it seems to be taking that role. They do well in the mid-range.
If you want a top of the line flagship phone buy an iPhone. No one is competing with Apple right now on that front.
i was considering the new pixel but decided on s23 ultra. no regrets.
Google can’t be trusted with software and the same goes with hardware, they just do things and wait for the next huge success like Gmail, if it doesn’t succeed, they drop it and don’t give a shit, your problem, we’re too big to care.
A great many of these issues (though not all) appear to be caused by a mismatch between the phone and the carrier regarding WiFi Calling support.
Both ends need to have it enabled, or disabled, or shit like constant renegotiation, dropped/missed calls, extreme battery drain, etc. happen as the device tries to do one thing while the carrier network another.
I had a similar issue with my phone. Turns out it was the SIM card. I don’t know if the one on the Pixel is replaceable, but I had to get a new one from my carrier.
Did you ever find out what the issue was? I’m having the same problems with a Motorola device. I am on my second warranty unit, and Verizon and Motorola don’t seem to believe me about the situation, and I was going to get a Pixel 7 pro.
This is why Apple is still king of the smartphone market, Google is not serious. I wish that Android had more options but switched a few years ago.
LOL “wait until a few more software updates, that’ll fix it for sure!”
2 months and one update later (because updates are often late)
“Sorry, your phone is out of warranty. Not our problem.”
It’s a deliberate strategy to save Google money.
Missed opportunity: “they’re like fingerprints. Every device is unique. It’s a security feature not a manufacturing flaw. “
The display takes on a beautiful patina
Every pixel on our display is like a clitoris and you are their Casanova.

Woah woah woah, let’s take a step back here…
Huh, can’t say I’ve seen this on mine, hopefully its nothing
I’ve owned almost every Pixel device (except 5 and 8) and the biggest problem I’ve ever had is that the camera started crashing randomly when I would try to use it. I eventually found that that issue was tied to an app, not the phone.
I’m not saying people don’t have problems but, in my own experience, the phones have been nothing but solid.
Pixel 2 was notorious for a system software update that borked the camera. I owned one. Made the camera and flashlight unusable
My Verizon pixel 2 rear camera just stopped working 2 months ago. Figured it couldn’t be a software update since it hasn’t received updates in like 5 years. I just said screw it, I had a Google branded Pixel 2 in the junk drawer anyway and started using that.
You’ve not been using each one for long though.
Try looking under direct sunlight with the screen off. That is, if you actually want to know. I’d rather not know, to be honest
Just checked on mine, no bumps.
Yeah I’m cool, that stuff would kill me LMFAO. I scratched the aluminium before I got a case a vertical scratch from the bottom of the glass to the lowest part of the camera bump and I already hate it lol
It’s their version of Braille. Suitable for blind users.
Pixel phones just don’t have a good track record. I use to be an android user but after switching to Apple, everything is just easier.
It seems like the first few were really good, and then they went to shit.
Pixel 7 wasn’t good, especially after the software updates for some reason. That actually made me switch and try Apple.
This. Was android from the Moto droid through the pixel 4XL and while there are things I miss the software bugs and shit hardware aren’t on the list
I was an android person for over a decade. Until Android decided to become a shittier version of Apple. Samsung lost me with the stupid Bixby button that they wouldn’t let you remap (So much for vaunted Android customization). Android lost me overall with the Pixel and then OnePlus 8 with its stupid (curved) display that just created two vertical light bars on your screen. Once Android made rooting and LineageOS effectively useless due to Safety Net, I bailed.
I finally switched when an Apple 12 Pro Max was cheaper than the equivalent Android flagship. I have some annoyances with Apple and IOS, but they aren’t as bad as Android.
I’ve been out of the loop for at least 5 years now, what happened to Android that I can look into? I was considering going back to Android for my next phone, but it sounds like I missed quite a bit.
This and the Apple silicon breakthrough. It’s no wonder Apple is so dominant. Google really needs to invest in hardware to match their software to pull people back. I want to go back but they need to offer better value for money products.
That fucking Bixby button. Argh
I miss the Bixby button actually, no official remapping but a $3 app worked flawlessly for me. Having an extra button that you could map however you liked was nice.
ah yes, the dynamic display
I would not ever buy a google phone. Their after sales service is non existent. When I bought my pixel 7 it was damaged out of the box. They just said I broke it. Now every opportunity I get to bag their product, I take it.
i had the same experience with a samsung galaxy s5 fuck em
I needed to carry around a lighter to turn on my nexus 6p. You literally had to heat up the back cover for it to turn on.
Idk man, I bought a Google Pixel 4a like 3 years ago and it’s still going strong. Sounds like your mileage may have varied.
Me to, but I’m replacing it with a Pixel 8 since they stop supporting the 4A.
4A is the best phone I’ve ever had. Started with Iphones, moved to Samsungs, then to Pixel and I’ll never go back.
you completely missed the point of that post. They weren’t complaining about the longevity of their device because it literally came out of the box broken - they are describing a customer support issue.
Not exactly something you have to worry about since there’s no warranty left but definitely something to keep in mind for the future.
I’ve had multiple Google phones and they have all been fantastic. The only issue was my 6 pro arrived with a Broken volume rocker. I got it replaced next day. Not sure what you did wrong but they didn’t even ask me a question about it
When it comes to the screen they just don’t repair them under warranty as a rule. They said as much.
My screen completely died on my pixel 7 pro. Took it, thinking they’d replace. Put in a ticket, told me to go to an authorized Google repair place. They had my phone fixed and back to me in just a few hours. I just some photos from a backup, but small price to pay. None of this cost me a penny.
I’ve had great luck with their products and service, so I guess ymmv
I did the repair ticket for mic issues on partners phone when making calls and recording video and got told to take to an authorised repair place too. Repair place couldn’t replicate, got told to pay a service fee.
Still had issues, support told me to ship in the phone and get a replacement, which also had the same mic issue…
Hours wasted on phone, emails and travelling/waiting at service centre. Never Pixel again.
What type of warranty did you have?
Diff guy but probably just the standard 1 year warranty. No extended ones for that model right now other than the camera housing but that’s kind of handled on its own.
I work at uBreakIFix and we get lots of warranty stuff in. We’re contracted with google so we do those kinds of things for them. As long as the tech (me in these cases) doesn’t find water or impact damage it would get fixed.
Crazy enough though is that 7 Pro screens ONLY have been out of stock for almost 2 months now because almost every single one sent to our region (OH, MI, AK) were defective parts. The final count for last month was 84%. Not a joke lol we’re talking thousands of screens.
Man ymmv but my current Pixel 7 was a warranty replacement for the first one I got - The camera glass spontaneously shattered while the phone was sitting on my desk. They had a replacement out to me the next day, and then I sent mine back after transferring everything. Very smooth experience.
My brother has a pixel 7 pro and the thing overheats like crazy. Surfing the internet and it’s like it’s been in the oven for an hour or something. Terrible battery life too. What the hell google?
No issues with my Pixel 8 pro. Best phone I have ever owned.
Dont buy google hardware.
