For months now I’ve been torn between buying a Model Y and buying one of Hyundai’s Ioniq models. Today I pulled the trigger and bought my first EV, an Ioniq 6 SEL. Overall I just felt like I was getting more car for the same price. I’m absolutely blown away at how much Hyundai has turned their brand around compared to 5 years ago. The 5 year 60k mile bumper to bumper and the 10/100k battery with two years free charging and 3 years free maintenance is what ultimately sold me. But dang if those Tesla seats aren’t the most comfortable things in the world.
2 years of free charging is very exciting, now if only EA had any stations within 100 miles of me and not just 1 that’s been listed as “coming soon” for idk, a year or so now.
Of course, it still wouldn’t actually be free for me since it’s just 30 minutes a day, right? I drive around 3k miles a month which is probably a lot more than that, and have an apartment where I can’t charge at home. Which is a shame because I really, really want an EV (again, I drive enough that I spend about $400-$450/month in gas).
It’s 30 minutes per session with an hour waiting period between sessions.
So with an Ioniq 5 or 6, you should be able to charge from 0% to 90% in 30 minutes, then you wait one hour, and you can charge for 30 minutes again.
So it’s essentially unlimited charging during a road trip since it’s nearly impossible to use up all of that energy in 60 minutes. Maybe it’s possible if you’re climbing a huge hill, but probably not.
Oh, wow, that’s hype.
Definitely something to think about if they ever open that one charging station.
30 minutes of free fast charging is pretty close to 200 miles of range with the big IF being the charger works correctly. I’ve had good luck with EA but I still would not want to rely on it daily.
Maybe you could find a place to rent that has access to charging. It seems like that would be a huge plus to your budget.
