I really would like to go electric for my wife’s next car and the Model 3 seems perfect. Great lease deals, awesome charging network, decent service location…
However, I really don’t like Musk. I’m sure the other auto maker owners/ heads are deuche bags as well but at least they aren’t vocal about it.
Never punish someone by punishing yourself.
Musk is a bad choice for what you’ve heard. Tesla is a good choice for the reasons you’ve stated.
Among the current EV candidates in the sub $70,000 space, Tesla has a superior charging network, superior charging speed, superior efficiency in its motor design and probably the best self driving system. Most EV owners do the great majority of charging in their garage, but when you must drive distances, Tesla wins on charger network and charging speed. Most Teslas qualify for the full $7,500 federal incentive, which, as of January 2024 can be a place-of-purchase discount.
In the negative vein, Tesla shows poorly on reliability ratings and fit & finish.
If you have never sat in a Model 3 or Model Y, you should do a front and rear “sit test”. The Model 3 seats are lower, so you sit down into the car and then climb up and out of the car, plus the rear seat has limited legroom. The slightly larger Model Y fixes those two things plus is a hatchback for better cargo utility.
