I was just quoted 5000 dollars to fix my 2017 equinox, apparently there’s a design flaw in the equinox ecotec engine and the dealership wanted to replace the pistons and timing chain, I doubt this will fix the issue as they barely knew what the issue was the first time I brought it and kept claiming its fine. I don’t want to gamble 5k on a car that’s worth about 11k without the issue. I spoke to another mechanic who claimed I can clean the pcv system and keep topping it up with oil and he recommends I just do an engine swap because it could break down as its my wifes car id rather not have her stranded. cheapest price I found was 6800 for engine replacement but that seems ridiculous, I really don’t want to be a dirt bag and sell it without disclosing the issue but everyone keeps telling me to and morally I really don’t want to but I’m out of options besides dropping 7k on the car.

The equinox engine is shit they crack pistons just because they feel like it I wouldn’t be spending 7k on a shitbox worth 11k when it’s possibly going to happen again
Trade it in for a Honda or Toyota before it’s too late. That motor is hot garbage
Chevy and Ford are an unmitigated engine disaster right now.
Years of quality advancements and in the last 10 year took a hard left and decided to make just shit unreliable engines.

It’s an equinox, these things are known to have issues. There is enough info available that I would feel no reason to disclose anything during a sell. I would consider this normal operation for the vehicle, more or less. Definitely can’t feel bad if you decide to sell to a dealer as a trade-in on a new ride.

Trading it in is your best option. Don’t worry about the dealer that’s getting it, no need to disclose it either. They’re Gona get one over on you anyway with what they’re Gona give you on trade.
Began noticing excessive oil consumption in my 2015 Equinox at 120k miles, I owned the car since new.
Shame on me for buying it, prior to it I had a 2011 Equinox with the timing chain problem and was led to believe the problem had been fixed by 2015.
Traded that shit into a dealer for a Subaru. Now I just deal with replacing wheel bearings 😂
