I was told the opposite. Avoid European cars if I don’t want to spend a lot on repairs, lol. Currently looking for a car to buy and will probably get a JDM.

I have own Mercedes Benz and Miata’s all my life. I’ve done the same repairs on my Miata and glk350 at about the same price. The only difference is my glk takes $20 more in oil changes and uses a bit more fuel. I’ve had more electrical issues with my Miata than with my glk. Reliability comes with good maintenance, except bmw and Audis, those are just bad.

Is the cost of parts the same? Maintenance should be a non-factor since it should be done with any car.

Dawg you bought a 90s 7 series of course it’s expensive. I would have assumed those parts were more even.

The only thing more expensive than a new bmw is an old one. But 420$ ain’t so bad… alternators can be expensive

Honestly I don’t understand what the problem is. An aftermarket Bosch for an M60/62 engine is at least €300. Heck, the usual junky Valeo for a small car (regardless of brand) is at least €120 on eBay nowadays. Maybe the US are super cheap when it comes to car parts but I don’t see anything strange about those prices, if anything they are on the cheap side.

You buy a luxury euro car that costs almost 65k dollars back in 1996, that’s a really good price imo

A hack for rock auto. Add one item in your cart. Then watch for the little delivery truck symbol/icon for whatever else your trying to buy too, It means it ships from the same warehouse so save some cash there instead of multiple shipping costs. Also rock auto always has 5 percent off coupon at all times if you hunt for the code.

If you Google rock auto coupons there’s always a 5% off floating around. Ain’t much, but it reduces the sting a bit lol

You bought like a 65k$ BMW when it was new. I remember paying 700 for my v6 altimas alternator parts and labor. You’re lucky here.
