After the Renault 5 and 4, the french carmaker adds another affordable retrochic car 30 years after the original. It‘ll be available for under 20.000€ or less than 100€ per month. Adding an ultra efficient 10kWh/100km consumption would be a really interesting affordable offer for the european market. It‘s main competitors will be the Citroen C3, Fiat Panda, W ID2 and potentially a Tesla Model 2.

How the hell do they get €100 a month from €20000? That’s 200 months without any interest.

      20k = 7k incentives (which replaces the down paiement), 4.8k monthly paiements (48x100) - 8.2k residual value?

Change your residual value to the number to the number you need (less months=less residual). Ofc that’s not how it’s calculated, but it gives a good idea of how you can achieve the monthly cost.

Probably assuming money down??? Idk that’s pretty crazy. Or maybe they DO mean 200 months, I wouldn’t put it past companies or banksanymore.

Basically you‘ll get up to €7-9K eco bonuses from the government in France for small EVs and those immediately go to the Manufacturer basically as downpayment.

Ah yes, yet another small fun and cheap electric car we won’t get in North America.

At $22k USD or $30k CAD, I can assure you this thing makes more financial sense than any new ICE car. Not only is the upfront cost only marginally higher, but assuming you drive more than 10k miles a year, it will pay for itself in fuel savings after only a few years when compared to another new compact car like a Civic or a Corolla.

And we’re back to the original cute Twingo styling! Magnifique!

Renault, I implore you, take revenge on Nissan and sell this chic little car in their most important market.

I’d wait with the praise or wishlists until more specs are released. As an extreme example, Dacia Spring is cheap for an EV, but it gets from 0 to 100 km/h in 19 seconds, with an equally pathetic range.

I don’t think you’ve quite realized just how small the Twingo is — it’s a city car, the smallest class of car even available. It’s two segments down from the Civic or Corolla, it doesn’t even remotely compare to those nameplates.

The only remaining same-class car at all in North America is the Mitsubishi Mirage, a vehicle which starts at $17k CAD, or thirteen thousand dollars cheaper. Yes, the Mirage is a shitty car, but I really want to illustrate how far away from reality you are here.

I was just trying to compare the Twingo to some of the least expensive cars still on sale in North America. I actually forgot they still sold the Mirage here. My friend bought a 2017 model used back in 2019 for damn well near nothing, so you think this car would be on my radar, but it ain’t. And apparently a facelifted version exists, but so far I haven’t seen it in the wild. You are right, and I stand corrected! The cheap electric Twingo can’t beat the Mitsubishi Mirage for pure low cost transport even over a 15 or 20 year time horizon. The Mirage is just too good at being cheap.

But I really don’t know how long it is for this world. People seem to hate it, and honestly I don’t understand the hate. My friend’s 2017 Mirage is good, honest transport, it’s reliable, sips gas, and is easy to park. It’s like a dollar store Mini Cooper.

Sure, I rented a little Citroen C1 in Europe a few weeks ago and it was a blast! Cheap little thing perfect for bombing down narrow back roads.

Honestly, they’re just a mismatch for North American roads though. With our wide highways and boulevards… it is what it is. 🤷‍♂️

I dont think the new twingo will be A segment like the original one.

The A segment has kind of died down with the years. The need of security features that bulked up the chassis and dimensions of cars meant that A segmentcars were becoming undistinguishable from B segment ones.

Case in point: This new one will be 5 door only. There was no way you could fit 5 doors on the original design considering its dimensions.

To me it looks like a B segment EV car, which is totally fine, you just cant make as roomy A segment cars as the OG twingo because of all the security features that new cars require.

Thanks, I’ll have the original which is at least as good a city car and costs 2k at the absolute most for a great condition one.

(Also getting an Mk1 is better for the environment, too)

I also have one, they are the absolute best. The engine is way too robust, it doesn‘t brake down and you can do a lot of work by yourself

I bought a 2003 16v one this summer with AC and glass sunroof for 2k€ in perfect condition, I must say it’s an absolute blast! Surprisingly good as a read trip car, I did 4000km with it with the wifey and 2 kids, with a large and a cabin suite case in the trunk, also with food bags and a stroller.

So, they’re going retro for the next gen. It’s nice to see the callback of the adorable 1st gen Twingo styling.

My parents paid 14k usd in 94’ for one. Considering inflation, its not really a bad price.

Your parents bought a twingo with us dollars in 94? How?

Also, where I live, we have horrible taxes and a brand new twingo costs like 17.000 euros WITH taxes. That would be 9.000 us dollars in 94, adjusted for inflation, which makes a lot more sense. Pardon my disbelief, but I don’t think your story is accurate.

Awww, I love it I love it I love it!

I have a soft spot for retro goofballs like the Twingo, and this concept looks so good, but still has the lil’ guy aspect of the older one…
