Big trucks and SUVs, especially those with flat front ends, aren’t just more intimidating to look at, they are genuinely deadlier for pedestrians, according to new research from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
It’s just basic physics. If something strikes you at/above your center of mass, you’re going to fall “forward” instead of “backward”.
I wish those crash test clips stood the doll up perpendicular to the vehicle, to better simulate a person walking in a crosswalk and then getting hit in the side. It wouldn’t really change anything, but just generally speaking I imagine it’d be more accurate.
