I was driving to work the other day, engine started smoking up bad, had to get the car towed.
Turns out the I cracked cylinder head on my cx5, and even better it’s a known issue, a design flaw and one they have corrected. Yet the people with this problem are left to fit the bill. I have it sitting in the shop with a quote of almost 7 grand to fix.
I can’t afford this fix and I don’t know what to do, I wish I could just total the car at this point.
I love my car, she has been a great car and I have kept up on the services and everything, but now I’m left to deal with their flaw.
I’m out of warranty of course and I’m going to argue with the dealership and Mazda because this is utterly unacceptable and should have been a recall!
And plenty of other people had to deal with it too, thankfully nobody has been left stranded somewhere because of it.
While that sucks, there are plenty of extremely capable independent shops that can replace a simple cylinder head for fractions of that dealer price.
Missing the point, he could of bought a rav4 and not have a problem at all.
Or a Crv
Every make and model no matter how reliable has ones that get a defective part.
As someone with a Toyota that had a motor go out at 51k miles, Toyotas are not magic. Fwiw, I have had 47 vehicles, do all my own maintained, and have most of those over 100k, 6x over 200k and 1 over 300k, and use to be a tech, before engineering. But this Toyota, only engine failure I have ever had…
Even though you said you have a lot of cars, its still anecdotal. Statistically, Toyotas and Hondas are pretty much the most reliable cars out there.
Yes this exactly. 2k sounds far closer to what that should entail from a reputable and good mechanic.
Or, you could always grab the parts yourself (junkyard heads can be resurfaced, too!), a friend or family member that you trust to do the work well, an oil and coolant change worth of the respective fluids, and you’re probably looking at a few hundred. Don’t forget the food and beer if you go with that last option.
Unfortunately, not everyone has those people in their life :/
Cheaper route, but doubt you get warranty for that. Best to just get it done at a respectable shop. Anything goes one down the line, they’re liable to fix with receipt.
I cannot be more thankful to have a super awesome shop owner that doesn’t wreck me with exuberant repair and maintenance bills. I found my mechanic through a drifting community facebook page. He shared his shop page one day and decided to check the shop out. Best decision of my life.
