I don’t get it, BMW.

You make Thundernight Metallic (purple), a color for people who like excitement and want to stand out.

You make the G87 M2, a car for people who like excitement and want to stand out.

But you do not make them available together.

To get the most exciting color, I’d have to buy the less exciting car. Which makes me want to not choose at all. 🤔

Best thing is: They started selling the G87 in the 5 colors - and only some months later they add the additional frozen colors. Which pisses of the enthusiasts ordering at the beginning.

Since E9x BMW often releases a popular “signature” color for the top non-M / M Performance cars and does not let that color be used by the M car for a period of time or indefinitely. See - LeMans Blue (E9x), Estoril Blue II (F3x), Thundernight, etc.

The M car gets its own launch color or two. The M car color choices are always more controversial.

M2 is a low volume model.

Thundernight is a low volume color.

Low volume color * low volume color = even lower sales figures

It’s not a cost issue. It doesn’t cost any more for BMW to paint the M2 in Alpine White vs Thundernight Metallic. It’s a marketing dept trying to make some particular color “exclusive”.

Maybe you should recheck the numbers of M2s BMW is putting out ;-)

putting M badges on an X1.
a car that, at its core, isn’t even an actual BMW.

The placement of M badges on everything is ridiculous these days. I own a true M car. But when explaining to people it’s crazy. I have people constantly tell me oh yea mine is M car too.
