I hope for a day that people look back at this image and don’t understand why this was a “radical act that almost makes me tear up”.

I’m looking at it right now and don’t understand what’s radical about it.

This may seem very intimate if you’re an Anglo but in some cultures this is not more than shaking hands… The kiss on the cheek isn’t very radical, the fact that she’s is a transwoman in office in Brasil, is!

I’m in the comments looking for a reason… I mean, it was quite common to have men kiss on the cheek in some political spaces… what does being trans change to the equation? Is that “worse”?

It’s like Mr. Rogers sharing a soak in the pool with a black character in the 60s.

Black person, my dude. A full blown, dark skinned, african descent, descendent-of-slaves black american citizen. Not a character.

I’m happy you got your little endorphin rush picking this trivial fight but what I said was in no way deserving of your condescension.

One could even argue it’s more relevant to clarify it was a character and not just a random guy in private to drive home the significance of it being televized.

I won’t, though, because anyone nitpicking a comment like that is barely worth the time to tell off.

No fight here, random person. Or condescension.

You do you, champ. Black folks are “characters” in your world. At least that’s an upgrade on how your grandparents talked about black folks…

You clearly learned nothing from that “black character” or the fact that Fred Rogers wanted kids to see black folks as equal, respectable, dignified citizens. Not “characters”…

You’re right, there was no condescension there. I should have known you were coming from a place of genuine concern, my dude. You were able to learn everything about this clearly ignorant fool from one comment and used it as an opportunity to educate them. We’re all so proud of you for carrying on the leftist tradition of infighting over the dumbest shit imaginable.

                That’s hobbyless behavior.

                Champ.

It would be like an American politician in 1984 putting his arm around a a gay man for a photo op. Or indeed shaking his hand.

She was another level altogether. Far far more “radical/extreme” than Mr Rogers or politicians shaking hands with gay folks.

Those were black skinned, african children from the poorest demographics with a deadly illness that was rumoured to spread thru handshakes and toilet seats.

A bonified, real life princess from a white supremacist country that was still coming down from their epic high being the most powerful, expansive empire in human history. Sitting with sick children in Africa. Touching them. Embracing them. Comforting them. While many others in the rest of that “royal family” was busy raping and killing children.

I hate monarchy but she’s the only good “royalty” i know of in recent history.

Have you paid attention to politics lately? Obviously it isn’t actually worse, but the left and right almost everywhere right now are racing to villainize trans people. Most politicians will do everything they can to avoid even being seen in the same room as a trans person right now.

It’s hardly typical for the losers in Brazilian elections to go to prison. If he’s worried about that, I think it implies he’s done worse than simply losing an election.

He is involved in Master Bank defrauding of public pension plans. Master Bank’s owner, Daniel Vorcaro, gave a ton of money to “make” that bolsonaro movie (dark horse), aka money laundering. Vorcaro has stolen something like 50 bi R$ from the pensions, Flávio, shit-his-pants, Bolsonaro got millions out of that.

And that’s the tip of the most recent iceberg. His first job was as a ghost employee lol

no idea, but supposedly they are part of a sympathetic party/group to lula and haven’t complained or spoken out about it. that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s all good but I like to assume kind/warm gestures are what they seem to be (kind/warm gestures).

Also, most of South American cultures are kind of touchy, so there are less situations where this could have been considered “too much”

I worked with a senior manager that was from somewhere in Europe. He was super hands on with men or women, not in a creepy office harassment way, just in a “in my culture we touch people, and I’m oblivious to western office norms” way.

I’d be showing him something on my screen and he’d be over my shoulder, with a hand on it. And then if I scrolled past something accidentally he’d get passionate about missing it, and just reach out over top of my hand to move the mouse…so both of us had our hand on the mouse LOL. He was completly oblivious to personal space.

I just watched the Mario Batali documentary. And I support the #metoo movement. And the President, etc.

I think it’s not interesting that no one else goes straight there.

Oh well. Brazil! Vote for huge trans ass!
