Elon Musk has been summoned to Paris, where investigators are looking into allegations of misconduct related to the social media platform X, including the spread of child sexual abuse material and deepfake content.

The world’s richest man and Linda Yaccarino – the former chief executive of X – were on Monday summoned for “voluntary interviews”, while other employees of the platform were scheduled to be heard as witnesses throughout this week, the Paris prosecutor’s office said.

It remains unclear whether Musk and Yaccarino will travel to Paris. A spokesperson for X did not respond to questions from Associated Press and Yaccarino’s current company, eMed, did not answer a request sent to the press email.

Alleged? Grok literally made a bunch of them. Normally, I’m in favor of giving the benefit of the doubt, but there is no doubt here.

While I agree with you, It’s the legal vs common term. Alleged is going to be in the headlines until a court rules one way or the other definitively. That’s how most legal systems work.

It is irritating how it comes across like it downplays the charges though, but in a sane world, people are supposed to understand this and the court of public opinion will already have its mind made up. Because we all saw it happen live.

The allegations relate to misconduct. While obviously the events occurred, the question is around if they as individuals have any culpability or if it’s purely the company which should carry the liability. If they acted in a reasonable manner in relation to how it unfolded, they would be innocent of misconduct.

If they actively tried to suppress any fixes and took advantage of the CSAM etc to make profit, then they would probably face criminal charges.

The reality likely falls closer to the innocent/minor misconduct.

Usually they always start with voluntary interviews.

And generally if you refuse it doesn’t help you…

French law is not like US law. Under investigation = you’re fucked unless you can prove otherwise.

Yes, and they still usually start with voluntary interviews, and if you don’t show up it is recorded that you refused to comply.

    summon Elon Musk

I know that’s just a fancy term for “order him to show up to court” but imagine them using a pentagram to summon him

Those platforms should be proceduted just like if Fox showed child abuse videos as part of their programming. You want to allow anybody to produce and post content? You should make sure they don’t fuck up and follow the rules. If they don’t, that’s on you for greenlighting and distributing.

Can they just leave him trapped in the summoning circle indefinitely? Throw a tablecloth over him or something
