Summary

The North Carolina House passed a controversial bill allocating $227 million for Hurricane Helene relief while including provisions to reduce powers of the incoming Democratic governor and attorney general.

Critics, including Democrats, called it a “power grab,” citing changes like stripping the governor’s control over the State Board of Elections and limiting the attorney general’s ability to challenge state laws or advocate for utility customers.

Republicans defended the bill as necessary, but some GOP lawmakers opposed it.

The bill now heads to the Senate and may face a gubernatorial veto.

I will never forgive them for doing such a shit job at vetting candidates that a democratic member would flip republican and give them the decisive majority. The NC dems were saved by an even more dogshit republican machine this cycle

That is fucking ridiculous. The woman who flipped was the daughter of an extremely popular state dem.

Nothing will change with dems in power. They won’t do anything to oppose republicans, no matter how much power they hold. Yes, it is their fault, bc they never, for any reason, oppose things that republicans do, even when it’s easy to do so

I attack defeatist attitudes, for sure.

There is one party that has tangibles that is open to positive change and the structure to implement that change. To toss out the baby with he bathwater is ridiculous. The party isnt useless. It’s influence-able and malleable. So yes, I will discard attitudes of defeat.

When have democrats ever been open to change? And when have their voters ever demanded change? You’re all going to sit by and let Trump and the GOP do whatever the fuck they want, because to oppose them in any way would be rude and disrespectful. Democrats are worse than useless, bc their goal is to be slightly left of republicans at all times, making them a right wing party with absolutely no interest in ever moving left unless republicans somehow also went left. If you still think they’re going to resist fascism in any remotely meaningful way, I’ve got a bogo deal on some bridges for you

Whoa, i was with you up until one of your sentances.

Dont disparage the voters, weve been demanding change from the dems for years. Its the party leaders that are at fault. The DNC will not allow a decent person to run as our candidate, which is why the DNC needs to be removed. Personally, I think the leaders of the dnc should be at least kicked out of the country, maybe out of life. You dont get to be just as bad as the republicans and still get to enjoy being taken seriously.

Fair enough, I didn’t mean all dem voters, it’d be weird if I did since I voted Harris lol. I was more talking about shitlibs who think any criticism of Biden’s policies or calls for more action to stop genocide in Gaza is basically support for trump, I should’ve worded it better. Tbh if there’s any chance for democrats to win in 4 years (there won’t) I might still vote for them in the vague hope that the far right will cannibalize itself and die with cheetoman, but the fact that they won this time around and democrats’ compete and total cooperation have pretty much killed my trust in them as far as trying to stop fascism or fundamentally improve anything that won’t be undone with the next republican president

Seriously how fucking hard is it for yall to admit you seriously fucked up this election and alienated a shit ton of voters that could have won you the election? Or that you don’t actually care about social or economic change? Democrats fucking suck, and if you want even the tiniest chance of winning another election the solution is not to go “after hitler, our turn” and suck republican cock, it’s to start actually appealing to people who aren’t fucking republicans

You mean the bureau that Trump is gonna destroy and democrats will watch it happen? Strange, for some reason liberal accomplishments never get locked in, so they can just be undone later. I wonder why that is

Might be time to pull a GOP and do whatever they want anyway. “Think like an asshole” should be the Dems mantra for the next 4 years if not beyond.

Why we would ever go back to civility politics is beyond me. Cilivilty politics are planning for defeat, as everyone can clearly see. And yet despite that, I will eat an entire plane if the dems actually change for the better in any way.

The last is really important because it will make the secret vote meetings harder or impossible for the GOP. The ones where the GOP made sure the few Democrat members would be not present for votes they wanted to win. Having to cheat to get bills passed, they must be so proud of themselves.

As for the title, I think they’ve tried this a number of times with past governors. They really, really hate that veto power that gets in their way of domination.
