I’ll be interested to see how she will compare to Obrador’s administration. I wish her luck

She IS AMLO’s administration, there was no word from her before he said something about anything during her campaign.

AMLO had said since the beginning of his term he was going to disappear from the public to his state after today, but earlier this year he said he would come back if the circumstances demanded it, and just last month I think he said he will stay around.

I don’t wish her luck, I wish México luck.

From what I’ve heard, it’ll be a continuation of the same policies. Including leaving the cartels alone.

In all fairness that was probably necessary to make it to the presidency with her head still firmly attached to her body.

          Yeah.

A lot of commenters have unrealistic expectations, as though anything less than burning capitalism to the ground is unacceptable.

How dare she allow the country’s largest source of revenue to continue producing oil.

I would prefer a president with a doctorate in climate science than one without.

It’s a good question. Her policies as mayor were very different from AMLO’s, and it’s frankly weird that AMLO (a fossil fuel fundamentalist and Trump-like populist) had a PhD climate scientist as his successor. But she is officially his successor and kept a lot of AMLO people. There’s no easy answers, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Best hopes and wishes to her! A left-wing landslide is a good thing to see in a time of increasing far-right influence.

She is the heiress to an industrial chemical corporation, with an aweful record, who uses her climate expertise, primarily, to spin positive PR for her, environment destroying, corporation.

Not sure about her record, but the entry on Wikipedia says her mom works/worked at UNAM (one of the most famous Mexican universities). She was hired there and received some awards. Hard to say, but it has the smell of nepotism at the very least.

Her family mostly seems to associate with middle class directors, politicians and faculty. Definitely more privileged than the average Mexican, not much different than a US president. I’m guessing the policies will be what you’d expect with maybe a spin for the plebeians to think she’s on their side (again, much like the US).

As long as you mean a landslide win by a party lead by a guy who said a religious charm was better during the pandemic than any medication, vaccine or any countermeasure, a guy who said “women deserve to go to heaven” when asked if he’s feminist, a guy who has said all the power should be concentrated in the government, not in independent entities, a guy who said eolic turbines make the landscape ugly, and who made two big investments in refineries during his administration… Yeah, it’s a good thing to see the left-wing in the power.
