I was a member of Jet’s Audi A4 page way back in the day, and became a mod when it became Audiworld. It ran on a language called KAWF, which had a unique look and interface.

Jet brought in a partner to handle advertising. Growth followed the rising popularity of Audi. The partner had a near fatal accident, possibly got hooked on pain killers, very possibly cooked the books and skimmed ad money. Facing a financial cliff and tired of dealing with the day to day dramas of running a site, Jet washed his hands of Audiworld by selling it.

The new owners switched to Vbulletin, which led to a palace revolt in which the best contributors left the site for Quattroworld. The founding of that site has some interesting and possibly shady beginnings.

If you search for the term “kawf” and keep the date range around 2009, you can still find some spicy threads.

This was my entry into the online Alfa Romeo world. Logging on every day and hoping the daily digest was waiting for me.

My guess is that it is meant to try and reduce price volatility until the company can project actual demand for the thing. It not only keeps flippers in check, but also prevents big selloffs due to buyer’s remorse.

I do love my GranTurismo! It’s a silly car in some ways, but brilliant in others.

The steering has real feel. You know what those tires are doing. And with a slight adjustment to the alignment, you can fix the somewhat lazy turn-in so that twisties are more enjoyable. Granted it’s a long heavy car, so it’s never going to handle like like my 296 or Huracan, or Caterham. Need to lope along the highway for hours in comfort? Covered.

The 6 speed ZF may not be the latest or greatest, but in manual mode it doesn’t dither when you click one of those big metal paddles behind the wheel. I do wish they gave it a taller 6th gear for better economy at speed.

The exhaust note is just fantastic - especially in sport manual mode. Nearly everyone in hearing range comments on it whether you are idling in the parking lot or thundering up a mountain.

I’ve had several GTs now and the interiors are rattle-free. The leather smells great and holds up well. However, the switchgear has the soft touch coating that turns to goo, which means having to remove buttons and clean them up. I also appreciate how this car bridges the time from when Maserati was making fewer cars than Ferrari to massive brand resurgence. I think they grew too quickly and squandered cachet, but it is what it is. But there is a charming hand made feel to the GT. Nat Geo factory tour - long video

Finally, it’s a beautiful car that gets thumbs up from both enthusiasts and non-car people alike.

So yes, I love my Maserati.
