There’s easier ways to make a buck than surgery, but it probably plays into a larger strategy.

Even still, I think we’re talking about small enough numbers of people that it’s not going to motivate a whole lot of effort just to get those patients’ money. But as a precedent for forcing insurance companies and/or the government to spend millions of dollars per patient, it’s a good long term play. Why not spend that much per patient on weight loss pills, ADHD medication, etc?

TBF Tesla is probably exaggerating their estimated gas cost just as much as the authors of this article exaggerated electricity costs. Everybody’s playing the same game.

As a customer I usually prefer the self-checkout. It’s an easy job and the people doing it tend to do it more slowly than I’d prefer. I’d rather just do it myself.

Let’s say you get a job operating a machine that makes hamburgers. You press the button, a hamburger comes out. It’s a living.

Now, an engineer at McBurgerMech develops a revolutionary new machine. This one makes TWO hamburgers every time you press the button. McBurgerMech sees the potential in this and invests millions of dollars into the production of these new revolutionary machines. The engineer gets a pretty good raise this year.

Should the guy who presses the button get a raise? He’s “twice as productive” now.

While there’s plenty of people who pretty obviously deserve it, there’s too high of a possibility of wrongfully executing somebody who was innocent. Better to just avoid the risk.

I went looking for an instance that wasn’t a left wing echo chamber after a mod on one of the big instances started getting power-crazy in a thread about the affirmative action SCOTUS ruling.

Content here is a little further right than I’m usually looking for, but I don’t have to tiptoe around on eggshells fearing a ban, and that’s what matters.

If a situation truly warranted an insult, you’d have no trouble thinking of several. Maybe try being nicer to people.
