Think we’re far more tense in the cold war era than now.

The chances of the baby surviving are low regardless of other complications like that.
I learned after, the mother was literally rotting on the table. This was only done because it was a black woman without the resources to fight back.

It’s been regularly attacked over the years. Getting weapons grade enrichment is really hard, it’s years of lead time to get centrifuges up and running before you can even attempt enrichment. It’s not unbelievable that they haven’t gotten pure enough uranium for a nuke yet, it matches up with what we know about their program from what has been inspected.

It’s purpose is to allow the world powers to peacefully interact with each other and control everyone else.

ryathal@sh.itjust.worksto News@lemmy.world•Al Green introduces article of impeachment against Trump1·6 days agoHe posted on X. That was ruled official communication in his first term. As far as I know there’s not a specific method of notification required.
They were shooting at those people though. NYPD is absurdly inaccurate due to lack of training and absurd trigger pull weights.
ryathal@sh.itjust.worksto politics @lemmy.world•House shelves effort to impeach Trump over Iran strikes23·6 days agoThe Iran strike is a terrible reason to try and impeach Trump. That’s why so many Democrats tabled it. While impeachment is a political process, you need something to attach to it that’s plausibly illegal, this was a legal action.
If they focused on sending marines to LA or the rampant detaining of citizens by ICE who technically has no authority to do so, they might actually get somewhere.
ryathal@sh.itjust.worksto politics @lemmy.world•128 Democrats join House Republicans to block AOC, Al Green bid to impeach Trump3·6 days agoI think someone elsewhere posted that that authorization was cancelled. The real reason is the war powers act, all a president has to do is tell Congress within 48 hours, the tweet is probably good enough as it was ruled an official communication source in his last term.
ryathal@sh.itjust.worksto politics @lemmy.world•128 Democrats join House Republicans to block AOC, Al Green bid to impeach Trump1215·6 days agoImpeachment over bombing Iran was a stupid move, it was technically legal. If you want any chance of success you need to pick something more than “Trump is a big fat doodoo head.”
LA cops would physically beat the NYC cops, but the NYC cops would shoot a lot of bystanders before they got in beating range.

An attack that can be directly traced to Iran that even targeted the mainland would be a great way to ensure the US escalates.

Germany was actively trying to get some level of control over middle east oil during the war. Their failure to secure reliable and plentiful oil is a big reason they lost. The campaigns in north Africa were largely about control of Egypt and the Suez canal. Part of the invasion to Soviet lands was also opening a route to the middle east.
ryathal@sh.itjust.worksto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I hear a lot of "ACAB", why don't I hear "APAB"? (P as in Politician)2·7 days agoIn the US, school boards and superintendents are a common source of political corruption. Many states allow for local control of districts, so these boards oversee the spending of tens or even hundreds of millions of local tax dollars and government grants.
In a world where the axis won, they would have taken a sizable portion of the middle east to secure oil for the war, so the region would look very different.
ryathal@sh.itjust.worksto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If one were so inclined, could you take your plot of land, parcel it up into 1-meter-squared (or smaller) sections, and sell each of those sections to different people/companies?7·8 days agoNo you can’t really do it. The government isn’t going to allow you to divide a plot into that many tiny ones. What you could do is have a company buy the land and sell lifetime leases for small parts.
I’m pretty sure that last decade or so has shown that Europe doesn’t spend enough. It’s not just Russia’s invasion. Military action in Libya was reliant on the US to sustain more than a few days of action.
