I called last week asking for the price of a new engine for a 2017 cx-9 and was told it was 5k with the parts needed to install it. Then you have to factor in labor and taxes. Replacing mine came to about 10k. My regular mechanic could only find one used cx-9 engine at 4k with 140k km and he was quoting me over 20 hours of labour.
I only avoided this same exact problem last week because my mechanic noticed my prestone was leaking during an oil change. I just paid 1200 to get my car taken apart looking for the leak only to realize it’s coming from the head gasket. If you catch it early , it’s a 5k fix, otherwise you need a new engine which comes at about 10k with parts and labor.
For now we put a product in the prestone to patch the leak but I’m gonna have to cough up the money to fix this soon. I was panicked looking at the price of used cars!
