  • You’re talking about the world of Lifecycle Assessment (LCA). This is a very well understood process. And over the lifetime of the car you have significantly less overall emissions. It’s like paying a big down payment to have a lower monthly. Except rather than it being similar money in the end, EVs have less. Lots of studies have been done to show this. Many countries and power sources have shown over and over again, over the standard lifespan, the emissions are significantly less.

In most cases, you become less overall after 2 years.

  • I work in sustainability and have done a lot of work in electronics. I think electronics reuse is fine on the consumer electronics. But once you get to this level of power output the risk associated with fault goes up and you are taking more risk by using used.

Power electronics especially tend to have a life span as well. They heat cycle a lot more than other electronics. If you are concerned about electronic waste, I get it. But the circular economy is a huge myth and honestly, electronics recycling is better than most other streams so long as you take it to an electronics waste recycler directly and not try to send it through a MuRF.

It’s it a lot more risk? Probably not. But is it more? Yes.
