I would expect the Golf to handle better, be more comfortable and quicker in the real world most of the time.
Will also have better tech and safety obviously (to a fault it may seem from reviews).
The M235i will sound better and likely be as quick from a roll.
I have an F31 320d Msport RWD - it’s great - good low down torque with the ZF makes it feel quick enough most of the time.

Apart of my fleet I’m most looking forward to is a 1971 RSR, an E30 Sport Evo and a G81 for running errands.
I’m not quite sure when I’ll get around to acquiring these however.
You should be able to plug in a wireless CarPlay box (eBay or Aliexpress), utilising the existing display.
They are just nicer than average cars mate, I would not worry too much about being ready.
