Because I beleive, that - as T. Boone Pickens had stated back in 2009 - America is funding “both sides” of the war on terror. The opposition, at the pump. And our soldiers through our taxes.
Maybe we should just stop doing that? 100% of every cent of “fuel” costs I pay for now, stays in my country - and stays right within my local market. I like that. Driving an EV is patriotic, if you believe we shouldn’t be sending money to other countries for energy.
The standard to qualify apparently require the vehicle to be scrapped to have an EPA MPG rating of 18 or less. So your 30+ MPG car wouldn’t qualify.
Been doing this for several years in my house.
My home office is in the basement, gets cold in the winter. Immediately when motion is detected in the master bedroom in the morning (and it’s a weekday and the outdoor temperature is below a certain amount) the space heater will automatically kick on for 1 hour to warm the room up.
I also have a Zigbee switch setup right at my desk that I can hit to pop it on again for a 1 hour interval during the day if I want.
And it’s not like they didn’t have a chance to see it coming, either. Our 2010 Chevy Volt buying experience was exactly the same. “Oh, yeah - the new kid - he’s the one who knows about the hybrids…”
And the kid was like 23, fresh out of college.
And then the service center, ugh. We did have something weird going on with ours (it eventually got swapped out under Lemon Laws) but basically they were having to fly in engineers/techs from GM in Detroit because like the 1 mechanic at our dealer who took like 1 Volt maintenance training class … couldn’t figure anything out at all.
That was >12 years ago now. ICE dealers have had time to see this coming. They have no interest in adapting.
