This recently happened to my 2015 e-golf. No warning. I spent some time on subs for battery sizing and watched battery replacement videos. Flawless victory! I feel very lucky that it 1. I had just returned home from work when the alerts lit up, 2. my OBD dongle was still good (did I really need it?), 3. I had the tools and there are no ICE parts to work around, and 4. I’m competent enough to do this.
Mainly for the environment, then true cost to own/tech is second. Lower ‘fuel’ cost was a bonus. My reasons haven’t changed over the last 4 years. In 2018/2019 I had been researching for almost a year, and most used EVs were in CA. I was hoping to buy a BMW i3, second being VW e-golf. An e-golf popped up, locally, in Hyannis, MA, but the price was still out of reach. About two months later the price dropped 4k and…the rest is history. My surprise was how easy it is to find wear-and-tear parts, thanks to so many EV subs. I might drop more money before I retire to update some things but, if this car dies before then, my next car will also be electric.
true. it didn’t die, per se, but i def didn’t want to drive/tow it until i made an attempt to fix it.
